Snider-man #2 Posted May 29, 2003 As an ebay seller, I've sold lotsa stuff for a penny. Put up a one cent opening bid, get one bid, and no others. But, a few times, I 'll give someone a great deal. If it's something small being shipped Media Mail (a buck for less), I'll even foot the shipping charges and tell them to keep their penny. Yup, I've sent out ebay winnings FOR FREE. Even eating the 30 cents it cost me to list the damn thing. Builds up goodwill and has brought back a few repeat customers in the process. Admit it. Getting something completely free off eBay is pretty cool. I rock.
rpmxxipt #3 Posted May 29, 2003 I won my first platinum Apple //e for 99 cents. No shipping - the seller lived five minutes away. I'd contacted him well before the auction closed to see if he'd do a cash-and-carry and he agreed. I think my max bid was like $20 since I needed one, but for some reason nobody else bid and I got it for his opening price. Well, after the auction was over I figured there was no way in the world I'd go ring the doorbell and hand the guy one measly dollar for his nice apple setup, so I e-mailed him and told him that given the circumstances I'd prefer treating the transaction like a trade, and I ended up giving him some spare CPU stuff that *I* had that he was looking for. I just can NOT take advantage of someone, especially if they're doing me a favor. (I suppose in some alternate universe, I shoulda took the poor guy's computer, counted out EXACTLY ninety-nine cents, make him sign a printed copy of his listing, and insinuate that if his computer didn't test 100% to his description, I'd expect a refund.) Nah.. -rpm-

Pixellated Ghost #11 Posted May 30, 2003 It's not an Atari but there was a 1973 color console TV for $1.00 in my old home city, bid on it, and won. Since my mom still lives there, she picked it up for me and drove it to me on her last vacation trip. It's half tube, half solid state, and just has a vertical problem that a few parts here and there will fix. This one will be my Atari TV, it has a 24 inch screen and a 6x9 speaker. My cheapest atari related auctions I won were a 4 switch atari with 4 joysticks and 37 games for around $20 or so, and a heavy sixer for $11.00. bcprs1 #12 Posted May 30, 2003 You have to be very careful with the cheap auctions. A lot of times you will end up getting stiffed on the shipping cost and "handling" costs.
ussexplorer #13 Posted May 30, 2003 I just did a buy it now for a Merlin BTMI. Yea, I know it is not atari. But for 10.00 compared to a normal 30.00-35.00. Pretty good. THis is also my first ebay purchase in over a year. For those who don't know. A BTMI is a box that allows a normal phone/fax/modem/other on a Merlin Phone System. Before that would be my Toshiba notebook. The price went up at the last moment. But, I still got it cheap enough. The last time I checked, I could probably make a good $20.00 profit on it. Doubt I could now though. Laters, Josh
adonis_minus_20 #14 Posted May 30, 2003 I once won an auction for a $1 for an old 386 PC, shipping was $20! I've horribly overpaid for most of the Atari stuff that I've bought so far. Jim

Mr.FoodMonster #17 Posted June 2, 2003 This wasnt really an ebay bid, but its still a great story. i am currently 14, even sence i was about 8 i was intrested in atari and bought the system for 10 bucks at yard sales ect. but every 2 or 3 years i went and bought a new one, the other one broke lost it ect. so the most resent one i have (purchased 2 years ago) and it works great and i have about 30 games. but every year there is a big big rummage sale and they ALWAYS have about 20+ atari games for about a quarter and i usaly buy all of them, even though half arent worth it. its better then printing out the entire atariage.com index and walking in there with it. so when i bought this one i grabbed all the games without looking at what they were, just made sure there wernt any doubles. i wish i knew how much i know about atari now, i sold about 10 of them on ebay and once the auction was cancelled and i had sent them, the guy emailed me and told me what a big mistake i made. 4/10 games i sent were well worth over 30 bucks a piece. now im very careful with that sort of thing ::sighs::
