mert #1 Posted May 29, 2003 Is it a fake?Recieved this email today.Has anyone else ?Flags went up for a couple of reasons..1.no prior email complaint,2.email from yahoo, and 3.some of the spelling.Ya know...if these people would spend more time getting an education and learning to spell..their efforts to get over on someone might actually work.It starts off stating that my account COULD be suspended then goes on to say 'due to the suspension of this account'.I hope this is a fake email because I don't trust it enough to log in.I've forwarded this email to Ebay: >From: "[email protected]" >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Account Problems >Date: Thu, 29 May 2003 01:00:04 -0700 (PDT) > >We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't resolve your problems. Guest cvo #2 Posted May 29, 2003 Is it a fake?Recieved this email today.Has anyone else ?Flags went up for a couple of reasons..1.no prior email complaint,2.email from yahoo, and 3.some of the spelling.Ya know...if these people would spend more time getting an education and learning to spell..their efforts to get over on someone might actually work.It starts off stating that my account COULD be suspended then goes on to say 'due to the suspension of this account'.I hope this is a fake email because I don't trust it enough to log in.I've forwarded this email to Ebay: It is a fake, for all of the reasons you listed above. ESPECIALLY the poor grammar ("To resolve this problems..."??????). Also, NO company starts out with an email saying "We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't resolve your problems." Whoever wrote this fraudulent email should be shot for being a complete idiot. Can you please post the link that it says to "click here" to login? It will help to see what the URL is pointing to. Thanks!!

video game addict #5 Posted May 29, 2003 No that doesn't work, although I find it funny that the header has a Yahoo address in it! I wonder if he doesn't know that he's giving that out too? To find the real link from a Hotmail account, try clicking the: Printer Friendly Version should be just below the header information before the email message starts from inside your account. Then follow it down to where the links are to copy & paste the real address. Something about the way Hotmail is setup, it always opens into a new window, with the Hotmail at top, so it will have a really long link you can't do anything with like that. Guest cvo #7 Posted May 29, 2003 Hehehe I should say that the #1 indicator was the sender's yahoo! email address and THEN the poor grammar. :D Thanks for that last link---I pulled up the page and did a "View Source" on it. Lo and behold, we have info on the idiot's form to tell us where the info really is going: action=http://www.response-o-matic.com/cgi-bin/rom.pl method=post target=_top AUTOCOMPLETE="OFF"> name=your_email_address> name=your_name> It's going to some stupid Perl script run on some lame free script site www.response-o-matic.com. GRRR!!!!!!!! [email protected]? I tried getting to kred.com but it was taking too long to load. Plus I'm on a work computer and don't want some crazy porn popping up on it. I sent an abuse email to the response-o-matic site: "http://member.ebay.us.com.go.ro/ The person running this site is using a script off of your site to fool users into thinking they are logging into an eBay site. The location of the fraudulent script is http://www.response-o-matic.com/cgi-bin/rom.pl and the user's email address is either [email protected] and/or [email protected] Please shut down this script immediately because it is fraudulent and is tricking users into entering their eBay login information. " Hopefully they will respond immediately and will shut down that stupid script as soon as possible before someone falls for the trick. Thanks for reporting this, mert!!!!!! svenski #8 Posted May 29, 2003 the address is a subdomain of go.ro , a romanian site. That redirects to home.ro , looks like a webhost. Try contacting their abuse department , usually [email protected] , [email protected] . But well spotted . Ebay will no doubt try and shut them down. Most of the crap comes from eastern europe, Russia is the worst offender and you can't even blacklist the entire country because they couldn't afford their own ip ranges so use everyone elses. Inky #9 Posted May 29, 2003 When I logged into my PayPal account today, they had a warning message about these emails before it would let you go into your account...
dinogamer #10 Posted May 29, 2003 I'm fairly adventurous so i logged on at that url with my id "yousuckmoron" and my pass "getalifeidiot" I got the following response: Service blocked due to spam or other abuse It's unfortunate that a few people choose to abuse FREE services like our Response-O-Matic. The reality is that this sort of abuse costs us tons of money and resources, which is one reason why we need to carry advertising. You can do your part in the fight against spam by responding to our advertisers' offers, like the one below: Looks like this fool has been shut down
Inky #11 Posted May 29, 2003 But did you notice the advertisement at the bottom of that page?
