Video Capture Issues with C-64 (5-pin DIN).

Hi, I'm posting here as this seems to be one of the better places to see if I can find a solution to my video capture issue. This is my setup:

- Original Commodore 64, 5-Pin DIN video output to composite connected to Diamond V500 USB video capture card.

This setup works fine connected to my HDTV, granted the screen isn't very sharp, but better than expected. My original NES and N64 work fine with this setup as well.

My Atari 800XL (5-Pin DIN to composite) works but only captures in B&W. Sharp screen, looks good, just no color.

My issue is, when trying to capture video (5-Pin Composite to Diamond V500 video capture card), the resulting video looks like this:

Does anyone know what the issue may be? This is an older C64, the 8-Pin DIN was released later on, but not too long after the initial release from what I've read.

I'm tempted to try a few other Video capture devices, but wanted to check here to see if anyone has had similar issues and if so, was their a particulate capture device you'd recommend?

Thanks,

ISB

The video capture cannot properly sync to the signal. The signals output by our old machines are progressive while most capture devices expect interlaced. The Commodore is yet another special problem as I have found a number of composite devices which do not like its signal and will often tear it at the top or cause it to roll.

Obviously this can be done but I have not gone into too much trouble to find a way to do it, yet. Hit Google for "commodore 64 video capture" and there are a number of threads floating around which go into detail.

I have no problem using my elgato on my vic 20 or commodore 64 that has the 5 pin av connector

so it sounds like a capture device problem or maybe the actual capture software

here is what I get on my vic

and here is my c64

I do run all my computers into a switch box

then from the switch box to a vcr that's hooked to my tv and capture card by composite (I use a y splitter so I can connect them both at the same time)

Thanks guys, I think I'll order an Elgato today... I'm also running my machines to a switch, switch to splitter. Crossing fingers. Thanks again.

make sure to buy the standard game capture hd

the hd60 is hdmi only

I made the mistake of buying the hd60 and then had to get a hd just to capture classic stuff attached pic of the difference

Thanks, I was just about to order the White ELGato capture card (https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Video-Capture-analog-iPhone/dp/B0029U2YSA/ref=sr_1_3)... It looks like the HD is no longer produced but I should be able to find a new one some where... maybe pick up a used one. Thanks again.

I got mine used on ebay with a bad hdmi port for 20$ lol since I already had the hd60 didn't need to capture hdmi with it anyway lol
