Jeez, how did you even find 3 hours to get to the kill screen ..... I barely have time to pee these days! EDIT: me so envious!!! thanks, well i'm an independent computer contractor, so i set my own hours and jobs. also, i do a lot of late night gaming : so from 8pm-3am or so, there's plenty of time for games. finally, pac-man is actually easier the better you get. 9th key patterns are slow, and take about 1 minute per level, and you don't need razor sharp reflexes. just concentrating is the hard part, because if you mess up, its tough to recover. i messed up my pattern on the 2nd to last level on pac-man plus with my last man. fortunately i recovered: shorter version: later -1 Edited December 13, 2018 by negative1

negative1
Succesfully did the arcade joystick mod to pac-man, it was a pain getting the joystick off. 1) 6 screws very tightly put on 2) The joystick plate would not budge at all 3) I finally had to pry it off using a lot of force, several times, luckily did not damage the board. joystick bottom plate: top of joystick : 4 inner screws new joystick wired up, and tested to work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/121691769605 I've got it now, and it works beautifully. It also has a 2/4/8 way gate on it. Next step, waiting for the monitor interface, and getting a MAME PC up and running... later -1 Edited December 14, 2018 by negative1

I've been waiting for someone to hack the Centipede cab. Looks like I'm adding a usb port to mine.

Skeeter
Waiting patiently for that Space Invaders. Very nice looking cab.
NE146
Yeah it's nice.. but I'm just thinking friggin if it's really just MAME in there, they could have thrown customers a bone and put in the background artwork, with bezel optional or not. Granted it's not "authentic" but the jigs up with that dumb claim. And it'd look a lot more interesting than the bare bones B&W presentation which honestly is boring to most. Lest we forget..that's how it's supposed to look
+x=usr(1536)
I'm just looking forward to seeing these emulated in MAME at some point in the future. Much as with the x-in-1 PCBs running ancient versions of MAME that have made it in there, there's something about the inherent recursion in this that amuses me. BrianC
I'm a bit puzzled why the cab even has a joystick. The cabs I have played of SI had buttons instead of a joystick. Edited December 15, 2018 by BrianC

BrianC
Thats the original Taito version. later -1 oops. The earlier pic isn't, though. I was confused because I saw a pic of a Taito cab with buttons. I heard somewhere that the Taito cab used joystick, but I wasn't 100% sure. Joystick isn't bad for SI, but I heard the Arcade 1up joysticks aren't that great. Edited December 15, 2018 by BrianC

4300
My overlay arrived today. The fitment is shit. The colors are washed out compared to the original. At least it's protected i guess.

Besides, given that MAME's goal is preservation, it's pretty much guaranteed that it would get the full boot treatment. its not mame running inside of mame. It's an instance mame running on the Linux OS that drives these boards.

Understood, but ultimately it's the same difference. It could be MAME running on BeOS inside of MAME, but the end result would be the same.
