Still haven't put mine together as I was debating returning but I should really assemble and test it myself.  By any chance did you look into their "totaltech" plan?  It says up to 24 months of product protection on most purchases, wonder if this would be covered?

I did ask about that, and the guy said it wouldn't help (and it was $200 per year).  He said that is really for like, phone tech support, it's not coverage for breakage / parts if I understood him right.

And @Cobra Kai agreed on all of that, been wondering.  Here's the video from the guy who has mentioned the issues in at least two other of his videos:

But maybe that's just what YooToobers do for clicks these days, exacerbate / hyperbolize an issue to get your attention.

Either way, I was disappointed that BB wouldn't offer it.  I mean, I got Geek Squad on much more and much less expensive things, it's super weird that they don't offer it on Tron (while offering it on other A1up cabs).  But you better believe I will be even more gentle with this machine than I normally am.  Early on I admit to being a bit rough with the flight stick particularly during the Light Cycles, it's just so stressful and fast :)  So if you're a new buyer I would say get it from Target if they get it back in stock, they have a protection plan for $75 for 2 years, much better than A1up's 90 days I would say.

I love when employees don't have a clue about their own products.  Not saying this would cover the Tron cab but here's an excerpt from that coverage (BTW its listed on the same page as the cab to "add to cart"):

Indeed, and obviously I didn't read up on it.  But I also am not interested in $200/year, so to an extent a moot point.

But after seeing that, makes me wonder if the call center guy was just too lazy to ask around about getting the Geek Squad warranty on the cab.  I might try to get in touch with someone at my local BB (long ago when I used to work there extended warranties were big personal pluses as an employee, so maybe they'll be extra motivated to sell me one).  Which of course will then likely guarantee that nothing on it breaks lol, but just as well.

The price threw me too, until I realized it like a membership, covering anything you buy from BB.

Admit that I gave this serious consideration.  I have a veritable TON of stuff from Best Buy (computer, recently bought OLED TV, speakers, Tron, Dishwasher, printer) most of which I've bought the extended warranty on.  But the Total Tech seems pretty crap to me personally for a variety of reasons gathered after reading the details and reviews.

First one is that of course it's $200 per year, 2nd issue is that it covers items for a MAX of 2 years (no more 3 or 5 year extended coverage on anything?), 3rd is that supposedly there are still costs and fees such as if the service people are at your place for over an hour, or for parts, etc.  So it just kind of sounds much worse than the warranties they used to have used to be.  They were always an upsell, a bit pricey...but at the same time if anything went wrong you basically took it back and they gave you a new one for most stuff (I know from having worked there long ago!), or fixed it for free for things like computers / audio / tvs.  It'll be interesting to see how the reviews go in the future as this is a new version of Total Tech they're rolling out.  But I can tell you, I would be one PO'd customer if I was shelling out $200 / year for coverage and they hit me with a service fee on a covered item.

Oh and also, #1 reason I would say no is if I read it right, you can ONLY cancel the auto-renewal by PHONE.  I hate this practice deeply.  Back in college I had a ShittyBank "AutoVantage" car maintenance discount program.  It cost way too much and I needed to cancel.  I was on the phone from 5pm one night until 7:30 pm getting it canceled.  Transferred to "AutoVantage specialist" after specialist (up the chain), they'd offer discounts, they clearly had it in their job to not let me cancel.  I eventually by the third or fourth person started telling them I'd SOLD MY CAR AND TOOK THE F*ING BUS so needed to cancel, and they tried to get me to keep the f*ing thing because "You could get a rebate when you buy a new car with this!".  Absolute nightmare.  "Phone only cancel" should be illegal.

Oh, so all this going back to the point................ Hope my Tron machine holds up :)

Looking at the vid, they're still sinking the buttons into giant holes in the acrylic.

I don't know why that bugs me more than all the rest of it--the visible screws, or audio from a $20 bluetooth shower speaker, but it's still the acrylic on the control panel gets me.  The acrylic must come from some factory on a vastly different continent than the place that assembles the control panels, otherwise it would cost very little to just do it right.

The Atari Legacy went on sale again for $349 at Target, and since I had a Gift Cert from Xmas for there, I took the plunge.

Even though I am nearly completely out of space for it in my little mini arcade room and was never any good at Tempest... the reviews are just so very strong and the price was right.  Plus, I absolutely love Asteroids Deluxe, Crystal Castles, and Space Duel, and look forward to playing weird stuff like Akka Arrh and Major Havoc with the trackball and spinner.

Only issue now is FedEx (who have weirdly been way worst than USPS after all the hubbub about USPS having so many problems).  Tracking until 7pm last night said it would arrive by end of day, GF canceled an appointment to stay home for it...then it changed to "No scheduled delivery date available at this time" on the FedEx site.  Like, how is that even a thing?  Ugh.

Target, pls use USPS or UPS going forward, kthx.

Considering getting this:

http://thearcadegamefactory.com/product/deluxe-marquee-for-arcade1up-tempest-machine/

Watched a video that looked decent for it, but 1. it's $71 after shipping which is a significant hit, 2. it leans forward at a different angle which might make the monitor less easily viewed, and 3. it apparently doesn't come with any instructions and you just kind of figure it out and screw it in as works best for you.  It still looks like a really nice mod, just on the fence for the time being due to those factors.

Do you prefer standing or sitting on a stool while playing? If you're usually gonna be sitting, the viewing angle is no problem. Also, the printing on the marquee will most likely be a big improvement over the stock marquee - for some reason A1up's marquees tend to look pretty washed-out compared to most aftermarket options. If you usually play standing, it would be more of an issue, not only from the viewing angle but also the brightness of the marquee. But all in all I'd say just wait and see how you like it with the stock version, because you'll always have the option to tinker with it down the road.

I tend to stand until my legs get tight, then hit the stool.  So I agree and will get the machine, hook it up, play it, see how I feel about the washed out colors / lines on the A1up Marquee.  Maybe someone somewhere will make a perfectly fitting overlay of some sort that improves it without having to completely replace the setup.

Wow, a whole freaking hour?  So I randomly jumped through it and ran across this gold:

20:48 "Being as someone who has fired a .50 cal... Original...T2 has that same....."

HAHAHAHA, holy crap, WTF no.   No idea who that guy is, but wow, that's some fantastic BS!

I managed to sell some old furniture and odds and ends that I didn't need to completely clear out the arcade room for nothing but my home arcade! Now, I've got all the space I need, and instead of having all my machines tightly packed, I've spread them out so I can enjoy the cabinet artwork and have plenty of 'elbow room' in case some friends come over. Eventually, I will squeeze them together again if I get enough cabs, but for now I like the spread out version of the game room. As you can see, I have a nice sweet middle section that my T2 will find a home, and maybe a pinball or Golden Tee :)

Oh yea, I did some redecorating with posters too.

Here's the Left, Middle, and Right sides:

Looks great! Yeah, being able to see the side panels is important to me too. I was thinking if space becomes tight, instead of packing them so close that the side panel artwork can't be seen, I'd first probably try setting each one at an angle so that you can still see the side panels when looking down the row. It would take more space than having them packed like sardines but might work to increase the number of cabs that can fit in a line.

Got the Atari Legacy Tempest (after a three day FedEx delay of unknown origin) together, LOVE the look!  Will NOT need to get a replacement marquee, in the light I have it at, it looks fantastic.  Build was easy (esp compared to Tron!), took me around an hour and a half on my own, with some small breaks to chill.

The big negative...a growing concern... The sound is set to ASTOUNDING when it fires up for the title screen... but for all of the games I have played, no sound or so faint it's not worthwhile.  I have tried upping the volume in game, no effect.  Apparently this is a somewhat common issue, not sure what the solution is yet.  Trying to get registered to put in a support ticket.

Love the visuals, so far loving the control... just want sound.  Related, whenever I move my Tron machine anywhere, like even bump it a little, the sound goes out completely and I have to turn it off, unplug the speaker connection from the board, and re-plug it in.  This works 95% of the time.  But since I'm putting in a ticket for my other machine I may do this one too.  Come on A1up, get it right, dang it.
