lucifershalo #1 Posted February 28, 2018 Hello, someone in an article defined WOLFENSTEIN VCS as a hackbrew... a hack of Venture with so much changes .... and they are right WOLFENSTEIN VCS is a great game.... do you know of other hacks that are more than cosmetic changes? atarifan88 #2 Posted February 28, 2018 Hackbrew? Now that's a new term I haven't heard before. Probably invented by the same people who call 2600 games "killer apps"...

CaptainBreakout #4 Posted March 1, 2018 I've been really impressed by 'A New Marauder'. It's so good that it makes the original game much less interesting from a playing collector's perspective. For the most part, I'm not super into hacks unless they somehow transcend the original game in a spectacular way (like A New Marauder) or change the controller method to better suit the game. Some of the hacks in the the AA store do one or both. The Indy 500 and Adventure improvement look like good ideas and probably worth playing. I haven't, but I'd like too. The only hackbrews I like enough to have on cart are A New Marauder, Sprintmaster DC, and Berzerk VE. My choice for the best. Hoping someone hacks 'Off The Wall' to be a paddle game. That would be my next choice, if it existed.
atarifan88 #5 Posted March 1, 2018 Bradgelina anyone? A brewhack implies you have hacked a homebrew which is not the case here. Hence the name hack is used here in the AA forums. I just find it humorous when things get overstated, like killer app.

atarifan88 #7 Posted March 1, 2018 (edited) try WOLFENSTEIN VCS, it is great and yes, A NEW MARAUDER is a great "hackbrew" or superhack, whatever Wolfenstein VCS is fun to play. It reminds me of the original version! For the record, I wasn't slamming you for using the term hackbrew. I was pointing it out that someone who wrote the article didn't use the right term. You would think someone like that would have done their homework? Edited March 1, 2018 by atarifan88
CaptainBreakout #8 Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) Thanks for clarifying. These new terms that show up everyday are kinda time consuming to do homework for. If yer not part of the thread where it developed, what do you reference? Urban Dictionary? Heh. Edited March 3, 2018 by CaptainBreakout
Video #9 Posted March 9, 2018 (edited) Hackbrew is a pretty old term to AA actually, usually just meaning a hack of a previous game. First I heard it was combat rock, which was an audio mod to combat. I like it, but wolfenstein is definitely my favorite game of the, er, genre? Edit) actually, it might have been berserk VE, a Bach that added voice when you died or left the screen. Those were both from the early-mid 00's area though so its been around awhile.
