Attached you will also find a short reference card for XDOS (uses german language, but you should still understand most of it; Datei = file or filename.ext, Gerät = device, Quellgerät/Zielgerät = source device/destination device, Laufwerk = drive, Abkürzung = abbreviation). If you still have questions, feel free to ask. Think there was an english manual and reference-card for XDOS, but could not find it now...

 

In XDOS you can also type BON or BOF to switch Atari Basic (if available) on/off.

Yes you can, they are fully compatible in 90k format and with 130k format you can choose if you want MyDOS or DOS 2.5 compatibility. (If XDOS was set to MyDOS format, you can change this with a config file afair.)

My all-time fav. chopper... I would love to own one... But I always wondered about total autonomy / range with 4-people on-board at normal cruise speed.

 

The sound of the Huey's blades shaving the air is something you never forget, no matter the time or place you may be...

@tf_hh: The small utilities for the 512k SRAM upgrade are released on a disk image with XDOS 2.4 f (where f = fast/ultraspeed) on it. This *can* cause problems, if someone uses e.g. two (real or emulated) floppy drives with different speeders, it seems. If one boots the disk on drive 1 with e.g. a Happy enhancement (or SIO2xyz set to Pokey divisor 10) and then copies a file to drive 2 with e.g. an XF551 - an Error 138 may occur and copying does not work, due to different speeders and/or different Pokey divisors.

 

Furthermore, afaik, XDOS 2.4f does not work up to Pokey divisor zero, so working with some SIO2xyz devices and XDOS 2.4f may also cause problems, if these devices (or a patched OS) are set to Pokey divisor zero or 1. I would suggest to use XDOS 2.4n (n = normal/slow) or simply DOS 2.5 instead for the utility disk (image). One user just reported to me, that he has problems with XDOS 2.4f, when he was using two drives (one of them a SIO2xyz device, the other a 3,5" drive) and I guess this could be the source of the problems...

 

Therefore find attached the 512k SRAM utilities a) on a DOS 2.5 and b) on a XDOS 2.4n disk image (90k single density format).

Thank you for that file.  When I configure the RAM to 256K the 800XL acts just like a 130XE. I can run a Newell modified version of Atari Writer Plus that was written for 80 Columns using OmniView80 and the very old SpeedScript character font.  The Rambo and Wiztronics upgrades don't use separate Antic access and the program will not run with them.  The Newell 256KXL memory upgrade will run the program but they are very rare. I have only had two since I have been tinkering with Ataris. I still have one and I sold one. (BAD MOVE). If I can get this memory upgrade to work on the 1200XL I will have IMO the perfect Atari machine.

Dumb question: I am installing the 576KB in my NTSC 600XL and want to make sure I got the right pins on the CO61618. Looking at the IC how it is inserted into the computer, does the pins go from top row left to right like below?

The above is wrong. I figured it out from a picture in this thread. I just loaded Commando ATR version by Fandel and it worked perfectly. Since it is a 600XL NTSC I need to mod it for composite.

I just attempted to install one of my 512K memory expansions into a 1200XL.  When I prepared to install the wires, I noticed that my version has four wires instead of three.  I decided to ignore the extra (ORANGE) wire and follow previously published instructions.  That did not work because the computer will not boot in the present configuration.  Are there any new instructions that I missed somewhere in this topic. My attempted installation is shown in the picture.

The manual is describing the installation into each Atari XL/XE computer, so please follow these instructions, of course. The operating system used has no influence.

Since January 1st 2019 it´s impossible to ship goods for 9 Euros worldwide any more, because "Deutsche Post" (German equivalent to "U.S. Postal Service (USPS)") changes his standard business conditions. The postal product "letter" (which I used before) doesn´t allow ANY kind of goods anymore - just paper, documents and magazines ("print items"). ANY content of hardware or "things" in general is denied.

To prevent to include any goods, you can´t label such shipments with the international CN22 customs declaration form any more. If the destination postal service and/or customs will detect any goods in letters, the shipment is withhold and will be destroyed or return to sender with terrible extra fees.

As a private person like me there´s no chance to use other, cheaper ways than DHL freight (standard parcels). The smallest product is "DHL Päckchen", which offers up to 2 kg weight and 50 Euros insurance for 20 Euros. If you want more insurance, I must use "DHL Paket", which is much more expensive.

By default 50 Euros insurance is enough, I never have problems with lost or damaged parcels in the last years. Everybody who has ordered something from me before knows, that I packed very well. Without insurance the price would be 16 Euros, but I can´t sent without tracking number due to Paypal terms and conditions. At last, without the 50 Euros insurance and tracking number it´s something like a game of chance, if the parcel would arrive you or not.

These changes are NOT a special german thing… the general terms and conditions of the "Universal Postal Union" (UPU) was changed and deny from now on the shipment of goods in letters. Main booster for the changes within the UPU rules was the U.S. government with the "Stop Act" to prevent drug smuggling. IMHO the good idea behind the containment of drug trading was only one motivation, but maybe not the most important one really - if you watch political discussions, global trading agreements etc., but it´s now the game we have to play and affects to all members in the Universal Postal Union(which causes to be ALL countries on this planet…).

For companies there are new ways of shipping possible which include goods, but I can´t register as a company. These special shipments require - for example - a complete digital transfer of all infos, invoices, included parts and their country of origin to the (U.S.) customs authority before shipment was dropped off and specialised, barcode labels for the shipments. Of course you´ve to pay for these services and you must sent a minium quantity each month.

 

So for "little people" only the standard parcel services remains, which are expensive.

 

Sorry. Maybe one day new ways will be open, but today I didn´t see any other chance. This affects shipments worldwide - not only to or from the U.S.

The last 10 parcels I´ve sent to the United States took around 2 calendar weeks, sometimes less. Depends on the destination, bigger cities and East/West Coast are faster than some destinations in the middle.
