Video Game Critic rated NHL Hockey on the Intellivision as one of the worst games of all-time?! Good thing Paul & C-mart were there to answer this stupidity, otherwise I would have to go after that guy like this...

Wait... I become famous... on the internet... in #34. Is this a "Rule 34" scenario? Does that mean I am porn? What innocent thing am I porn of? I fear the answers.

I appreciate the bit on the Arcadia 2001 controllers. In emulation you can see some games are programmed with diagonal directions. I imagine that diagonals should work like any common dpad/joystick; eg NW by combining the up and left circuits; but the disc can't physically make that happen. And having the action buttons tied to the keypad, does that mean you can't move and press a button at the same time; which you can do in emulation.

The controllers aren't the only thing they copied from Intellivision. Auto Race, Ocean Battle, Horse Racing, Boxing, and maybe others like Bowling look like they were conversions of Intellivision games.

I think going after him like that should still be on the table...

I can only guess, but I'd say it's porn that involves monkeys / chimps?

I have yet to actually try an Arcadia 2001. My only exposure to one was at a department store back in the day (FedMart - the building later became a Target). I distinctly remember seeing a demo unit it on a shelf - I'm sure the controllers are what caught my eye - but it wasn't powered on.

Slightly OT - would it be possible to do something like a "dual programmer interview"? The stuff the BSR did on the "1337 Lounge" in 2013 (http://intvprime.com/community-1337-lounge-chat/) was great because multiple folks played off of each other. The show has always had great interviews of single programmers (you guys have a real talent for it) but a new dimension for 2018 could be asking questions of 2 people at a time. I'm not sure which game would have two BSRs you could interview at a time, and which game would meet your planned coverage schedule, but still....

Something like this can work out well, but it also might not if one of the interviewees dominates the conversation. That could happen depending on personality, Skype time delays, etc. Probably a case by case basis. Still might be worth the effort to try out.

Fun math: at 7 minutes into the episode, nurmix says something about listening to 20 episodes a week. If someone listened to the 20 episodes leading up to episode 34 (numbers 14 thru 33), this is a total of 87 hours, 15 minutes. This comes out to that a listener would need to listen to an average of 12.4 hours of Intellivisionaries a day.

It's been done a few times e.g. Thin Ice, Space Spartans, MOTU.

Also episode 5 (Bomb Squad), episode 16 (Thunder Castle), episode 18 (Bastketballs).

If it's an option, I try to make it happen.

maybe you have it on your mobilephone and listen to it at an airplane if you travel alot :)

I drive 2½-3hr a day, so a 3hr potcast will only last one day :)

Talking about math, they mention they would try to put out more in 2018 than 2017, but so far 3½ have been produced in 2018 and we are 25% into the year :) so good luck with that :)

Did George got his copy of Dreadnaught Factor PAL? ;)

Not that I'm aware of, unless he got one on his own and didn't tell us.

Awesome!

Just wanted to add for the show that Space Patrol was what really drew me back into the Intellivision scene and helped me decide in buying one of the last Cuttle Carts before that closed. A really cool game that thanks to the ECS has a sound track like another arcade game that shall not be mentioned extremely well! I especially like the bass like tone of the jump sound effect. Also liked how you travel to different planets in the solar system.

As I was searching for information on Space Patrol and also found the 1962 puppet sci-fi series "Space Patrol" which was actually quite good considering the time and budget. Later found out that this show was the inspiration for J. Michael Straczynski for Babylon 5.

So Space Patrol is an excellent game and had the side benefits of finding a hidden sci-fi gem while also rediscovering the Intellivision.

Funny you should mention that sci-fi series.. it came up during the game review too.

Ok, so now I'm wondering if Paul is going to be putting his time into the new Intellivision if he will still have time to do the Intellivisionaries podcast? I hope this doesn't go to the wayside...

For the past several weeks a lot of my time has been taken up with the Intellivision Entertainment project (and my other "real job", of course). I intend to keep doing the podcast, but I suppose at some point there just won't be enough time to do it. And I wouldn't want people to start thinking I'm just a "spokes-hole" for the new console, and not the wise-cracking Inty fan I am. And that may mean I'd have to step away and perhaps let the others continue with the show?

No, no, no. You can't walk away from the podcast. You're the glue that binds it all together, wise-cracking and all. I don't see how you could come off as a shill for the new enterprise if you keep the format as it is right now.

You want to talk some Intellivision news? The news for the '79 – 1979 platform. Rick already leads the way in this segment. You just continue in your present role and be available as a resource for inside information and the occasional slip about something you shouldn't have revealed… which also gets by you during the editing process.

The interviews, deep dives into games, and the rest can all remain the way they are, and your new role at Intellivision Entertainment wouldn't be a factor. C'mon, we need you!
