Best 2600/7800 mod picture quality

Dear Forum,

 

I am planning on having an AV mod on my 2600 or 7800 (all PAL). Are there any differences between Cinch, DIN or S-Video? I have an old CRT with SCART and a new UHD with HDMI only. Many thanks.

On a CRT television, S-VIDEO is more than enough to get a nice clean picture.

It isn't the best possible, but I use an S-video mod on my 7800 to an old composite/s-video to HDMI upscaler and have been very happy with the results honestly. Yes there is some slight lag, that I've measured to be about 4fps behind a CRT with my LCD in game mode and all other enhancements off. But it looks really good in my opinion. Although I'm not using an UHD display either. My TV is 1080p max only in the game room and my upscaler I run at 720p as the 1080p mode on it won't work through my AV receiver for some reason and the different in video between those with these old systems was not noticed.

Thanks a lot. The CRT TV with Cinch to SCART is maybe the best solution qualitywise. If I want to go bigger, I have to consider indeed an upscaler Cinch to HDMI. I will try after the mod has been installed. Thanks again.

There isn't any options for HDMI on the 7800 that I would personally recommend.
