Welp.... iam8bit has another round of high dollar repros from Capcom!

 

This time we're getting Mega Man 2 in a stylish light blue/dark blue cart (your color is random), and a rather plain-looking Mega Man X in white or blue... (also random).

They are 30th Anniversary carts. They look nice enough, but gorram it's $100 each. >_<

$100 may seem like a lot, but people are dropping almost that on collector's edition of PS4 these days...so if Mega Man is your jam, why not get a special limited version of it?

Most of today's collector's editions are garbage, so I'm thankfully not one of those people. The only time I could/would justify this is a metal case (generally only $20 more and only $80 before tax) or if the collector's edition is reaaaally worth it (Persona 5 <3).

 

I can't see justifying $100 for a repro when you can buy the original game complete in box for the same price or slightly more.

I'm not disagree with that line of thought though. I love Mega Man X! It's one of my favorite Mega Man games, one of my favorite SNES games, and one of my all-time favorite games.

 

I just... can't justify $100 for a fancy boxed version that could probably be $80 or less.

Mega Man 2 is very high on my top 10 all time favorite games list. It's also my favorite game on the NES, and for good reason: the gameplay, graphics and music are absolutely timeless. That said, paying $100 for what's basically a tribute to that game just doesn't make sense to me. Even if I didn't have a copy, I'd just seek out the original.

 

Then again, that's me. I can't blame others for getting excited about this release, because both of these games absolutely RULE.

If this were an Earthbound or something where the original was stupidly expensive, then absolutely it would make sense. As it stands, you're better off just overpaying on EBay... you're still coming out ahead.

I'm not a big Mega Man or Street Fighter fan myself so these reprints haven't been of much interest to me, but your post did give me pause for thought. What games do I love enough that I'd pay $100 for a boxed official reprint of? The only ones that really come to mind for me are Star Fox Adventures for the GameCube and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Game Boy, because they're easily my two all time favorite games.

 

Of course there are some rare games out there where it would just make good financial sense to buy an official reprint rather than an original copy if they were made available, like M.U.S.H.A. for the Genesis or just about anything Neo Geo. Buying an official reprint for $100 would be a bargain compared to the prices that some original copies of games sell for complete in box.

I have a couple of aliexpress multicarts, though they can be mixed bag in terms of what vaersions of gmes I get, ntsc, pal, japan, or hacked.

They're a mixed bag but they do work, and you'll pay like $15-20 for 100 or 500 great down to average oddball games, or you can pay $100 on a similar quality board/plastic shell and sticker setup with capcom's graces for $100. No thanks.

Interesting question: could iam8bit do their own 6-in-1 MegaMan cart for $100, including their tithing to Capcom, and make a good buck? Seeing as the MegaMan games go for $5 each on the Virtual Console, I can't imagine Capcom would charge more than $30 for all six games.

 

Six desirable games for $100 is a far better proposition than one not-even-rare-just-really-popular game for $100.
