+KylJoy #1 Posted May 2, 2018 I am trying to find where to get plastic bags for old system hardware. I've seen many that look very similar to this: Does anyone know where I can find these of various sizes? Thanks in advance.
Flojomojo #2 Posted May 2, 2018 Are you going for "authenticity," or reliable storage and protection against spills and dust? If you're trying to make old things look new, whatever dude. If you want something practical, I like IKEA freezer bags. They zip shut, you can write on the tabs, and they're thick enough to hold up even when stuffed. Eltigro #4 Posted May 3, 2018 I wish I had kept these for my TurboGrafx. I've had to put it back in the box a few times and there was some issue with the cables getting stuck to the Styrofoam of the packaging. A heat and humidity type thing or something? Anyway, if I had packed them in the plastic they came in, I'm sure this would have been avoided. But yeah, if just looking for protection, any freezer/storage baggy will probably suffice. If looking for authenticity and to make something really "complete", I don't know.
godslabrat #5 Posted May 3, 2018 Would also like to know if this is going for authenticity or practicality. If it's the latter, you're heading in the wrong direction.
Keatah #6 Posted May 3, 2018 I wish I had kept these for my TurboGrafx. I've had to put it back in the box a few times and there was some issue with the cables getting stuck to the Styrofoam of the packaging. A heat and humidity type thing or something? Plastics.. Foams.. Wire insulation.. all made out of petroleum. And as they degrade and breakdown, they get sticky, dry up, crack.
Eltigro #7 Posted May 3, 2018 Yeah, after it happened, I looked into it and other people have mentioned there being a reaction between the wire insulation and Styrofoam where they kind of stick together.

keepdreamin #10 Posted May 3, 2018 Half the shit people collect in this hobby belongs there. 30 year old stuff that already had its plastic packaging tossed, definitely deserves MORE plastic. Earth be damned.
godslabrat #11 Posted May 3, 2018 Have you tried the Pacific? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_garbage_patch This is why I'm trying to cut down on single-use plastic.
