Albert #1 Posted May 10, 2018 Greetings, I am running low on Atari 7800 shells and need to replenish my stock so I can continue to sell Atari 7800 homebrew games. I will pay $4 in AtariAge Store credit plus shipping costs for every good Atari 7800 cartridge you send me I can use. Cartridges must be clean, with no permanent markings, scratches or etchings on the plastic, and for carts with no dust cover, both pegs must be present. I can also use red-label Atari 2600 carts, as well as later Atari 2600 "gray" label shells. These basically use the same shells as 7800 carts. groundtrooper #7 Posted May 11, 2018 I have had a few PP2 carts that I have been sitting that I got for a steal. I will go hit my local shops and see if I can find some more "commons" to help with the cause. I know that I don't need Froggie delayed any longer than it already has been because you don't have "shells" to drop the boards in. I had never thought to pick up "Red or Gray" label late carts for this option. I know there are some of those around in local shops so I will see if I can get some deals on these. Al needs shells. Albert #16 Posted May 19, 2018 Not sure what it would cost, but they would be relatively expensive compared to injection-molded parts, that is, once you get beyond the very pricey molds you need to first purchase for injection molding. Even if the advertised cartridges worked with 7800 boards, I don't like the very coarse (and obviously 3D-printed) nature of the carts, or the four exposed screws on the back side of the case. And I'm curious how smooth the label surface areas are. If they are not very smooth and level, you'll easily notice these imperfections when the labels are applied. 3D printers are getting better, though. I may have to invest in a higher-end printer at some point (such as the Formlabs Form 2) to play around with. ..Al 3 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
jaybird3rd #17 Posted May 19, 2018 3D printing is still far too expensive per cubic inch, and it still can't quite match the quality of injection-molded shells (although the newer printers are getting better). (I'm printing one of those carts - the .STL was available... should be done by midnight) :-/ Just curious on how well they work. Pro: It will work with a standard 7800 game Con: because of two of the screw placements, it will not fit the large Atari 7800 boards, or CPUWIZ' versa board... unless you dremel out the top two screw holes. Fairly awful: not a single 7800 game, nor any gray label 2600 games. Came across two red label 2600 games: Midnight Magic and Desert Falcon. Told him I would take them both off his hands for $5.
