My First Atari 2600/TIA music track

Recommended Posts

Made this with TIATracker. I originally wrote this in a different format to emulate the 2600's pitches, and thought "why not make this for the actual machine itself?" Seems to have gone pretty well.

I attached a ROM of this track. It was recorded in Stella using the "stereo" option to separate the tracks, then mixed back to mono.

Nice work, and a great tune :) You should try this on a real 2600, though. Parts of the track suffer from interference of the channels. In particular, the first reprise of the main theme around 30 seconds is mostly silence on an actual machine. Stella's current audio core does not accurately reproduce phase, but you can try the ROM in your browser in Stellerator (check my signature for the link), the audio is cycle exact there and reproduces the interference. We're in the progress of adding the same, cycle-exact audio emulation to Stella.

 Reducing the volume will help reducing the interference.

The problem at 30 seconds is that I didn't know how to properly loop audio in TIAtracker at the time. Try this file instead:

Ah, yeah, that one works :) My bad, should've run it through the old sound core before running conclusions.
