Hydian #26 Posted June 7, 2003 If the Xbox comes down a little more in price, I'd consider getting one just for Mech Assault.
NE146 #27 Posted June 7, 2003 I'll just my PC to play Xbox games. It might take a while, but eventually all the oustanding X games will be ported over. I think AeroSmith sang a song for you... "Dream on, dream on, dream yourself a dream come true...." I dunno... but there's this in development http://www.caustik.com/xbox/cxbx.htm Seeing the crazy pace of Xbox cracking that goes on daily, I'm thinking it's probably just a matter of time
Starscream #28 Posted June 7, 2003 Well, that's not exactly "porting" the games over as ET said, but still interesting. I have been following this thing for a while and I have no doubts it will happen. Of course, with ET's reasoning, there is no need to own a PS2 right now either With everyone always saying the XB is just a cheap PC, I guess some of us are already playing them on a PC anyways right? PuddWakkr #29 Posted June 8, 2003 While the 3000+ games that are stored on my xbox's HD do offer alot of enjoyment there are actual games that are worth playing. RTCW: Tides of War - Very good single player game and Xbox Live support kicks very much ass. Brute Force - Not all the way through this game yet but so far it's alot of fun. Hope to get the system link multiplayer tested soon looks to be a blast. Steel Battalion - The Best Mech Game Ever!. Totally worth the cost to get started with this game especially with the Xbox Live version due this winter.Steel Battalion: Line Of Contact Indiana Jones - Very solid game that is fun to play. Somewhat glitchy but overall a good game. Halo - Yup Halo. Still spend more time playing this game than all others combined. It's not over rated in the least. Every bit of paise this game has gotten is well deserved. Morrowind - My favorite RPG in recent memory. Maybe I just got burnt out on the "traditional" style RPG's but this very deep game was a refreshing change from the current console RPG lineup. It didn't hurt that I played through the first two Elder Scroll games on the PC either. The Thing - Genuinely freaky game. Think squad based Resident Evil with a good control scheme. Basically a PC port but I never played the PC version so this was new to me. You can pick it up for about $10 and I recommend that you do. Alot of other games already mentioned like JSRF and Oddworld are also very good. I don't believe Batman and Shrek can give you a good idea of just how good MS's console is. I for one am glad that my morals are low and I have a fine time playing my big?, noisy? box. Thanks to XPORT i can now play all of my PSX games on my big noisy Box so I think i'll spend even more time with it. Here's to having low moral fiber and playing what you like. +kisrael #30 Posted June 8, 2003 3000??? Is that how like Atari counted Space Invaders as like 112 games with all the variations?
PuddWakkr #31 Posted June 8, 2003 3000??? Is that how like Atari counted Space Invaders as like 112 games with all the variations? Nope. That's over 3000 games. If you really want a list I guess i could put one up but it would take a while. Breaks down like 300+ Turbo Grafx, 900+ NES, 600 or so Genesis, 300 or so SNES, around a hundred MAME games, and then there is all the 2600, Coleco, Commordore 64, and Intellivision games which is over 2000. With the PSX EMU and the soon to be released N64 EMU that number will go up. But the actual point I was trying to make was that even with all of these great options available to me with the press of a button there are still games made for the Xbox that will deliver an enjoyable gaming experience. If you somehow feel dirty or violated for even thinking about buying a Xbox then have fun living your sheltered and empty life. I don't swing from Bill Gate's nuts but I think that the console he put out is a good one.
+kisrael #32 Posted June 8, 2003 Oh, emulated. Why didn't you say so? If you somehow feel dirty or violated for even thinking about buying a Xbox then have fun living your sheltered and empty life. I don't swing from Bill Gate's nuts but I think that the console he put out is a good one. Chill out, Spartacus. I think the Xbox is a decent system w/ the best online play. I still can't justify the expense when all I really want it for is Halo, though.

I have a sneaking suspicion that a large % of the non-Xbox-specific titles, the emulation, I could also get for PC. No? And I just put down money for GBA+Metroid Fusion+Wario Ware. I need to cut back spending for a bit. Someday, tho.

Well, yea you can get most of that stuff for a PC, but take me for example, I leave for vacation in 3 weeks. Got the XB loaded with movies, thousands of games, music, etc. All I need to do is take it and 4 controllers and I have all I need right there for me don't need one single piece of media. Sure beats lugging a PC around with a monitor if ya ask me.......Or using a laptop and sitting at a desk the whole time I wanna play games all while squinting..... I just got back from the Outer Banks and that is what I did. Had all the Toystory movies on the XB harddrive, as well as the games. Watched all the movies and played Family Feud (NES version) right from my box. At the beach all day and in front of the Tube at night. And yes Kisrael you can get alot of the same games for your PC, but playing Family Feud with your friends and family is alot more fun sitting on a couch in front of a big TV than it is huddled around a 19 in. monitor. I honestly didn't want to turn this into a MOD UR BOX thread I just wanted to state with all the alternatives I have to play on my box I still play a large amount of actual XB games. bargora #37 Posted June 9, 2003 While I have been relentlessly playing Steel Battalion lately, I also have found great joy in Serious Sam and Gunvalkyrie for my Xbox. And I'm going to pick up Buffy the Vampire Slayer for some beat 'em up action, too. And while you can get Serious Sam for PC, the Xbox rev includes both the first and second Serious Sam games. Oh, and Halo's pretty good, too, even if I prefer my FPS games to be COMPLETELY FUCKING MINDLESS. (This is why I loved Doom and love Sam.) "Swinging from Bill Gates's nuts" LOL
Hyper_Eye #38 Posted June 10, 2003 I love my XBox. The sad thing about it is that I take a lot of heat for loving my XBox. I am not a Microsoft lover... I use Linux at home and make a living developing Linux/Unix applications. This is not because I am some anti-Bill droid. It is because I feel Linux is a better product then Windows. When I saw the XBox for the first time I was skeptical because I didn't care for MS products. After seeing what it was about and what titles were available I felt it was the right console for me. I picked it up and have been satisfied with it every second. I now own about 20 titles for it (this does not include titles I did not care for and sold. I only keep games I like.) My favorites out of what I own: Halo - Not my favorite but it really is a great game. Unreal Championship - Very enjoyable single-player... Awesome on Live. Serious Sam - I love this game. It is the best version of SS there is. Fatal Frame - This game is just plain freaky. It scares the crap out of me. Silent Hill 2:RD - Again... I think this is the best version of this game. The graphics are improved and that just adds to the overall effect of this game. Mech Assault - Not amazing. It is definitely worth purchasing... but only if you have XBL. Morrowind - There is no other RPG like this. It is the best RPG ever. The world is so massive you could never possibly get bored playing this game. I dare anyone to claim they have explored every inch of this game and have collected every item. MGS2 - Excellent game. The story is good and the graphics are pretty good to. Splinter Cell - I don't believe I even need to comment. This is the best version of Splinter Cell. I play my XBox on a 27" Samsung Dyna-Flat HDTV and the high-def adds a lot to the experience. Despite what anyone thinks about MS it really comes down to product and what is right for you. All the companies want nothing more than your money. I don't understand brand loyalty. All three companies could care less about the customer... they just want to make money and to actually think that one company is "better" than another is rediculous. People need to stop worrying about brand's and look at the quality of a product. I believe the XBox is a top-notch product. I will continue to take heat for my love of the XBox but it dosn't bother me as I have been through it before ala Jaguar.
