Compatibility between various ST platforms

I was led to believe (many years ago) by a friend who at the time had a STFM that the STE would not run all of the STFM software (he mainly used games).

 

Can you please let me know whether this is the case as I am currently interested in buying an ST but don't want one I will regret later.

It's not so much which version of the ST, as much as the situation is which version of the OS...

If I were to upgrade to TOS 2.06 would this eliminate the incompatibilities and allow all software to run on the STE?

I am assuming that all the external connectors would be the same e.g. monitor?

The problem is that some of the games have different little quirks. Some will run fine across all ST OS's. Some will work only on certain ones. What I had was a switch on my ST that allowed me to select between two different OS's. You may want to look into that.

 

And all the connectors will bethe same.
