I noticed the similarities, too, the very first time I saw the movie. I was in the theater with my nephew (who's seen me play the Atari 800/5200 version), and after that scene was over, I nudged him and said "Do you remember that Atari game where you have to bomb the big spaceships before they can get to your planet?", and he said "Oh yeaaaah!" He made the connection, too.

 

I also seem to recall seeing one of the rebel Resistance pilots doing the "deliberately stall, go into a free fall, then pull out with a backward loop and blast your opponent" maneuver that was so popular in the Biplanes game in Intellivision Triple Action, as seen in this vintage Mattel footage from 1982:
