Altirra won't boot from Disk/Floppy

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just installed Altirra 3.0 and I try to boot from a floppy image.

So I successfully added (System > Devices) a "1050 disk drive (full emulation) - D1:"

Next I "inserted" (File > Disk Drives...) a floppy "Dos2.5.atr" as seen on the attached picture.

Then I reboot (Shift F5) and I hear that buzzing Atari sound and get my Basic "READY" :?

I don't hear the usual beeps when an Atari tries to access a disk drive.

I also used another disk image, tried the cassette emulation in Basic (works fine)

Even the (File > Boot Image) option isn't working - I get "READY" again. I even don't get a "BOOT ERROR".

My Altirra behaves like a physical Atari without any disk drive.

What's wrong? Do I need a firmware for my ATARI 1050 virtual drive?

(I correctly installed the firmware for Baisc, XL, 400/800)

130 is nonexistent device error

cassette is C:

   CLOAD CSAVE LOAD "C:" SAVE "C:" ENTER "C:" LIST "C:" RUN "C:" SAVE "C:"

Make sure you have a proper DOS image and coldstart the emu after attaching....

SAVE "D1:filename.bas"

RUN "D1:filename.bas"

LOAD "D1:filename.bas"

etc. etc.

Try loading another atr.... make sure you have your os choices and basic choices set while your at it. exit and reload...

You might let us know what PC OS your running (Windows 7 8.1 10) 32 bit 64 bit.... etc etc...

the more you tell, the more help you may receive ....

The chances are that you have the OS firmware files and not the firmware for the 1050 disk drive, there are two ways around this...

1. Delete the device you added in system and just select in File / Disk Dives / 1050 drive (well any of them that are normal Atari usable drives, they are all virtual)

or

Go to system firmware and firmware manager and add this file file attached as a 1050 Fully emulated drive and go back and reattach that disk drive device like you did the first time, if done properly you should hear or see the drive light (emulated) come on before it reboots..

That's the two ways.

Have fun,

Paul..

or you can remove 1050 device entirely, it is useful when you want to emulate the physical device for, like playing with protections or stuff. for normal loading it is not necessary.
