UnoCart NEW Cartridge Shell Design

COREi64

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've come up with a new design for the UNOcart cartridge emulator board.

This is a standard styled cartridge shell designed specifically for this cartridge board. Once installed, this cartridge can be plugged into any of the Atari 8-bit line of computers including the Atari1200XL. Yes, it is compatible with that cartridge opening as well! And there's no more fear of plugging the board in backwards in error.

The case is a two piece design, with four brass heatsets embedded into the lid, and held together with four black oxide hex-key screws. Openings in the lid exist to allow access to the microSD card, visual access to the onboard LEDs and of course the on-board push button!

UNOCART is embossed on the lid.

Hi, thanks for all the positive comments.

Yes, it's going to be available for sale shortly. Just printing a grey one for photos, then will list them for sale.

And yes Doctor, of course the tabs are centered on the PCB, and the case is hollow to accommodate the PCB! It wouldn't fit otherwise...

Alright, the case is good to go. The final print is perfect, nothing left to revise... it's done! Tested it on the cartridge slots of all the 8-bit Atari's and it fits perfectly (including the 1200XL).

If you've got any bit of fingernail, the microSD card is easily removed and re-inserted (even with MY big mitts, I don't have trouble).

Here is the order link for those interested. There are two print options. 200 micron, and 100 micron (high resolution). The photos below are 100 micron. The cartridge shell works the same regardless of the print resolution you choose. The 100 micron print is twice the number of layers as the 200 micron, so you'll find that to be a much finer print. I only added a bit ($) to increase to high resolution (even though it takes twice as long to print)

FYI, my print time is 3.4 hours 200 microns, 7 hours 100 microns. I don't run my printer fast, and that ensures I get a quality print.

$20.00 USD + shipping for 200 microns, and an extra $6.95 to go to 100 microns. Of course I'll throw in the tool to open and close up the case (1.5mm hex key tool).

And, here are photos...

P.S. If you feel confident enough to pay me using "Friends and Family", then I can sell it directly to you and save you a few bucks on the shipping costs, otherwise the shipping costs from the shop stand. If this option interests you, then shoot me a PM rather than going through the shop.

some shells have been semi solid with just enough hollowed out for the pcb, very tight fit, this didn't allow for good air flow to cool the chips and made the shells somewhat heavy... so less fill is better in these situations... :)

You know I'm a fan.... just being helpful as possible.

remember if they don't find you handsome, let them find you handy :o

Been a busy week so far. Have the first run of UNOcart cases complete. Will package them tomorrow (try to ship as well), but likely shipping Friday...

See if you can spot yours...

I love that purple...

It does look great. I thought and thought about which color to order. Eventually I settled on a perhaps little boring grey in order to match it with my somewhat unique 3D printed SIO2SD case.

I didn't see the need for people to be constantly re-flashing the firmware on this device, so opted to not have the ports opened on my case...

For those that do on occasion need to do that, it's pretty easy to open the case.

Honestly, I don't see an issue. Having the ports always open I see more of a shock/shorting concern. Better to have them closed up for normal use IMHO.

Some of us actually do re-flash the firmware several times a day. Having to open it up every time would be a real pain in the butt. And leaving it open will cause shorts when inserted in an XL. Could remove the latches, but I kind of like them :)

It's not really visible on wratchchild's image, but he (and so did I) replaced the female precision sockets with regular pin headers.

Sorry for the fuzzy picture. Too lazy to redo it ;) But this is the basic idea.
