Retron77 Compatibility List

Has anyone taken on the task of converting games like the Activision FE and CBS RAM Plus banchswitching to F8 (yeah, RAM Plus is 12K, I think, so may be SOL there). I think it has been done for Robot Tank and Decathalon to make them compatible with the modded Flashback 2, but have not heard of others, such as Pitfall 2, etc.

Does anyone know if Solaris and Secret Quest work on the Retron 77?

I installed Stella 6 on my R77, it's easy to do and highly recommended.  My Solaris cart works just fine. I don't have a Secret Quest cartridge, but the ROM works fine.

The emulator on the original SD card that came with my R77 stopped working for some reason. I looked but was unable to track down the original software to reflash the SD card, so I have no way to test if a stock R77 works with them or not.

Secret Quest uses F6SC, 16K of ROM + 128 bytes of extra RAM, which is used by Jr. Pac-Man.  The Jr. Pac-Man cartridge works just fine, so I would expect the same for Secret Quest - at least with the Stella 6 R77 software installed.

I bought the OTG usb cord , the wico trackball doesn’t work with my Stella adapter , thank you, so with the Stella adapter will the cx 22 or cx 80 trackball work ?

To be clear: Are you trying to play the trackball hacks or with joystick games? I would think the Wico trackball would work in joystick mode.

I'm using this OTG cable to plug a keyboard, Stelladapter, etc into the Retron 77.

This is my setup (2600-daptor instead of Stelladaptor), but I cannot for the life of me get it to work.  How on earth do I get the 2600-daptor to work with paddles?  Autosense doesn't seem to work.  None of the toggle settings seem to work.  I thought it would be pretty simple since it seems paddles is probably the most popular reason to buy a 2600-daptor (I bought the D9 version which is supposed to work with nearly everything).  I'm extremely frustrated at this point.

I also tried with my Windows PC in case there was an issue with Stella settings on the Retron 77.  [edit: Can't get paddles to read on the PC either. (Works in Windows now, but still not Retron 77). end-edit]  I'm using the latest Stella 6 on my PC and the beta2 Stella 6 build on the Retron 77.  I know the paddles are good.  They work great on real hardware.

Try deleting /stella/settings.sqlite3* so that Stella will recreate them.  The current beta release has a bug that will eliminate paddle mappings under certain circumstances, and "defaults" will not restore them for you.  I found that starting from scratch does restore working paddle defaults, however.  Mappings can also be set manually, but it's a fiddly process for paddles.

You need to hold a particular button on the controller for the Auto Sense to work.  For 2600 paddles, it is paddle #1 button.  There is info on this on the web page and an Auto Sense quick reference label on the back of the D9.

I tested both carts again and they both do not work. They are in very good condition and have been cleaned. Thery are both PAL and look just like the slot machine cart that that has pictures on page 8 of this thread.

The R77 does not even try to dump them. Of course both work fine on original hardware.

I am pretty sure other carts of Night Driver and Basic Math will work. The R77 cartridge slot seems less reliable than the original Atari slots and this is causing the problems. Note that we know which carts can be dumped and which not (so no testing required, except for physical slot problems):

  • all 2K and 4K carts
  • all 8K and 16K carts using standard Atari bankswitching, these are named in Stella as:
    • F8 (8K Atari)
    • F8SC (8K Atari + RAM)
    • F6 (16K Atari)
    • F6SC (16K Atari + RAM)
  • all other carts will not work (and this will not change)

To find out the type of your cart, just check the bankswitching type which is displayed by Stella at multiple places (e.g. in the Launcher info (Stella 6.1), the Game Properties dialog or the Info display which you can enable during emulation with Alt+L).

BTW: Stella definitely has no problem with these. And of course supports all other cart ROMs too.
