+InsaneMultitasker #3 Posted July 25, 2018 Heatwave has been down for at least a couple of hours. It connects, but nothing comes back. There have been a few local power outages recently, some heat-related. I'm guessing Heatwave's restart sequence was interrupted, maybe during a subsequent outage. To be honest I rarely monitor the system given its stability and track record. I'll check it out in the next day or two.

+InsaneMultitasker #5 Posted July 25, 2018 Indeed! The hardware is/was functioning properly. As I suspected, the auto-start sequence got interrupted and the Geneve was merrily awaiting input at the command line. I manually started the BBS batch file, which dutifully loaded the TI interpreter/OS (GPL) and Extended BASIC, and the BBS took over from there. Seven years ago this month, Mad Hatter brought Heatwave online. Time sure flies! All part of the fun of being a SYSOP. Heh!
+Swim #6 Posted July 26, 2018 I remember way back when Bill Lucid was still running the Indianapolis BBS much talk was had about getting the TI to reboot itself when something happened but the TI was sitting waiting for carrier detect but the modem needed resetting or some glitch like that. Or a way for the TI to "hear" a software crash and reboot itself. Fun days.
RickyDean #7 Posted July 26, 2018 I remember Bill, I was part of the Hoosier User Group, and even president for a time, I spent many a hour and dollars on that BBS.
Mad Hatter #8 Posted July 26, 2018 Wow you're right! I kind of forgot about that. Glad you picked up the reigns and took over after I decided to take it down. Seven years ago this month, Mad Hatter brought Heatwave online. Time sure flies!

I used to have a X10 device hooked to power so i could power cycle the BBS (post ti so it would reboot into the bbs) I had the telephone module so i could dial in and touch tone reboot the thing
Omega-TI #10 Posted July 26, 2018 Wow you're right! I kind of forgot about that. Glad you picked up the reigns and took over after I decided to take it down. Life without Heatwave BBS? It would not be the same. The older I get, the more I love the stuff of my youth.
+InsaneMultitasker #11 Posted July 26, 2018 Wow you're right! I kind of forgot about that. Glad you picked up the reigns and took over after I decided to take it down. I was glad to have the opportunity to continue your success That said, I haven't decided how long I want to continue operating Heatwave. It runs well but I haven't made any real changes or recent innovations, which was one reason for writing the softwae. I suppose like most things there will come a time to gracefully move on. Whether that is through retiring the current system or transforming it into something different, I have not yet noodled through those ideas....

I forget who wrote the software but it worked well for controlling lights in the house. It might be easier today with our side car developments since those days so you wouldn't need the P-Box.
Mad Hatter #13 Posted July 27, 2018 Hmm, maybe a pure Assembly Heatwave running from the Geneve command line?? +Ksarul #22 Posted July 29, 2018 The cartridge is easy--that is a readily available 8K ROM file. The cable pin out for it was put up here a few years ago, and the compatible X-10 controllers are not that expensive on eBay either. The key there is that you need the early X-10 stuff, not the later stuff, as they changed their communications protocols and the type of communications channels they used too, IIRC. I have a complete older system, although I need some device control modules for it. . .
JB #23 Posted July 29, 2018 So how about.... << THIS >> and a USB to Serial connector for << THIS >> Firecracker's RS-232, you could hook it to a TI-side serial controller. Just need the proper command set to feed it.
