Atari2600Lives #1 Posted June 8, 2003 Picked up Desert Demolition (looney tunes) for the Sega Genesis for $2 today complete win box with instructions. Found about 7 Sega games in box with instructions, whomever owned them took real good care of these. Nothing like seeing a big $2 sign with permanent marker on the front of a mint box like that! It amazes me how good graphically some of the Sega games where. This game looks as good as anything that was made pre Dreamcast. hell it looks good today. Great game! Anyone else notice the prices for the old consoles going up at the thrifts? man a Sega unit that would of been $5-$7 a year ago , was $10 today. BTW Atari Dude, you have to check the thrift stores in the deepest parts of Hialeah! That's the trick!
rpmxxipt #2 Posted June 8, 2003 Heck, I just saw a crudded-up loose Genesis console bagged up with a nintendo controller and some other misplaced cables for $24.99 at my local Goodwill on the way home. Bargain eh? I didn't think so. It seems that anything electronic is $24.99 [bTW - I find this whole ".99" thing even more idiotic when coupled with an insane resale price. Kind of like lipstick on an 80-year old prostitute.] On the other hand, I also found a fair complete boxed copy of Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss on 5.25" disks for $4.99 at the same store, and while checking it out also noticed that the box included most of the box filler for Ultima VII, including cloth map & coins, and the U7 strategy guide. Not too bad for five bucks, so with the great deals I got at the Midwest Classic, I'm pretty happy. -RPM-
King Atari #3 Posted June 8, 2003 I love how my thrift's price loose N64's at $19 with no hookups or games. Atari/INTV games are $2.50-$3.00. TVs from the 70's are $40-on up. Yes, they're overpriced, but should you find a good 2600 cart, the $3 is easily worth it.
rpmxxipt #4 Posted June 8, 2003 I hear ya, but I think back to the glory days of.. um.. well, last year, where Atari carts were 49 cents, nintendo/SNES/Genesis games were 99 and Atari consoles were six bucks. I'd spend hundreds of dollars every couple of weeks hauling stuff out of there. Now, this stuff is up 400%, and I only cherry-pick, a few bucks here and there. I sure hope someone else is buying this stuff at these prices, because I'm definitely not. I've been in the mood lately to buy a real retro TV for my Atari.. and Goodwill has always been a great source for them, but now ANY TV (or old Monitor) is $25 minimum.. today there was this REALLY cool 70's Sony portable with mod stylings that I'd have probably paid up to $15 for, but $25? Untested, with the antenna broken off? No way, Jose Feliciano. But I suppose where else are you going to find so much stuff in one place? I keep telling myself that I'm going to hit rummages, but I just don't have the time or energy. My love/hate relationship with thrifts continues.. -rpm-
