Commodore 128 questions

Recommended Posts

Just bought a Commodore 128 without realizing it's NTSC machine what are my limitations i'm in the uk

Can i use PAL software such disks/tapes/cartridges other types of images?

Framememeister status says it's a NTSC machine label on back seems to indicate it's NTCS machine is there another way of checking?

I would say once you figure out a display that will work with the NTSC machine your only issue will be with games/demos that scroll the screen. I'm not sure if one of those external converters that output VGA would fix the issue.

My SAMSUNG T32E310 32" LED TV/MONITOR seems to run everything ok

I get status report of 0.46ms in the Framememeister

No external video converter will fix timing issues happening inside the computer. As noted, demos and games tied to the raster interrupt and/or NMI interrupt will have trouble, in particular if those are programs designed for the PAL mode with more lines but fewer cycles per line. That is why people try to convert said programs. Most programs should run OK though, those not as tightly tied to running on interrupts and timers.

You could possibly convert the C128 to PAL by changing the VIC-II, crystal and Kernal ROM etc, but I don't know if it is worth it. There may be software developers actually looking for an imported NTSC machine to test their own programs so you might find yourself able to trade or swap it for a PAL unit.
