Atari compatible hardware eclaireXL, in mini form.

I received my Eclaire XL this weekend. It really is an amazing device. It is a nice cross between an emulator and real hardware. I can use it instead of my real hardware giving it a break. It is smaller than my real hardware too. Plus, I can plug real devices into it. I can print to my printer and read from real floppies. That really is the biggest gap on the emulation front. As awesome as Altirra is (and it IS awesome!!!) I cannot print from it, nor can I use it to access real floppies.

This device really is the best of all worlds.

@wt808, I printed your XL case. My printer is 145x145x140(ish). By standing each half up on its long end and rotating the z axis 45 degrees it just BARELY fit. (it was 142 mm high, but my printer handled that okay.) I had to use a crap-ton of supports, but they came away nicely.

The only issue I had (and I'm sure this is more to do with the way I printed it) is that the cartridge port standoffs were about half a hole off toward the PBI port. I just pulled it into Tinkercad and did some frankensteining and am now printing the bottom case. If it works out, I will either send you my stl, post it as a remix, or let you do a better job with the original models than I did with the hack job. (Really depends on if others experienced the same issue or not.)

For this run, I moved the standoff's pretty much exacly 1 mm away from the PBI.

Here are some pictures. (I put some M3 bolts through the corner holes and put hex nuts on them to hold them in place without the top half of the case on.)

Thanks, everyone!

PS Is there any reason the joystick ports are arranged opposite of the original Atari 800? It threw me for a loop for a bit until I read the markings on the board...

It is my own failure to mention it, and not a design defect of wt808.  In this last "mini" version,  the holes have moved so they come in  straight line with cartridge connector.

It's weird, because the cartridge port insert that I printed from @foft's design, those holes line up well and I could plug a cart in. (I am able to attach the screws to the cart port with the adapter or to the four corners, but not both. When I had it connected to the cart port, inserting a cart appeared to work, although I did not power it when it was attached that way...)

toddtmw, just curious, how long did your print take?

In the last iteration of the models, I extended the cartridge opening to the board level, so even with no fasteners installed, the board should be "captured" between the halves. I had also tightened up the fit at the corners, so you might be able to get away with just the four fasteners that hold the halves together.

8:15 on low quality.

I wanted to to use the cart insert so I could insert Atari carts that have the cover. For that, I need the screws.

i won’t.  be be able to get it off the printer until after work today. I’ll let everyone know then how it went.

Uploaded to a couple of online printing services (I don't have access to a 3D printer) - The costs are crazy, average was $120 for the top and bottom :o

One of my area libraries has a 3D printer you can use.  You have to take a training session, and for something like this you might need your own roll of plastic compatible with their printer for the right color.
Check libraries in your area.

Mine appeared this morning after a very snappy delivery over the weekend from Greece to Sweden. Thanks a lot @santosp and @foft for a true work of art of a product. Thanks also for having the latest core pre-installed, took me a while to realise I should test that first before trying to install one myself. ;) Hope to source someone to print the beautiful XL case from @wt808 soon as well. Good times! Tomorrow's project will be to transfer the Scandinavian ROM from my original 600 XL.

Okay. I removed the excess support material from my new bottom case.

You can see the new standoffs I moved

The holes look better

(BTW, is there a story behind the little bugs silk-screened on the board?)

But, now I ran into a new problem. The standoff on the top nearest the SD port, overlaps the SD port.

The two tone was a happy accident. I ran out of grey filament.
