Atari 8 bit computer production film, video...pics even ?

Recommended Posts

During the years I collected and restored arcade games i found quite a bit of video or film footage shot in arcade factories, some definitly at Atari.

However, I have never seen any video, film or even pics from the production lines of the A8 computers...

I can understand this for the later years when XLs and XEs were produced in Hong Kong and Taiwan....later even China....but has nothing surfaced from the he original 400/i800 production in the US?

It would seem weird for a giant like Atari to not have made anything themselves or even journalists wanting to report ? Maybe they were too secretive ?

There doesn't even seem to be any pics of 2600 production or any other console....clearly the arcade division was really different in that aspect, although what I have seen is also not that extensive. The best video about arcade machine production is that of Ms.Pac Man machines in Bally's plant which is really extensive because the unedited material has been put on the internet a number of years ago....loved that material as I actually owned one for about 8 years and seeing where and how it was built was very cool.

we're sorry but partying on the production line precluded any and all filming, and no you may not use that soldering iron in that fashion.... even if it hasn't been plugged in for hours.... move along and pay no attention to the red green blue white yellow or purple pills.... they are really just special festive m&ms in honor of pac man... yeah they're pac pills that's the ticket... please move along ... no photography or video taping please....

I’ve seen - and recently! - video that shows production workers folding boxes for Tele-Games branded VCS units (probably heavy Siders) in Sunnyvale, but that’s the closest thing to what you’re looking for. The film was silent “B-roll” type footage found and posted on a retrogames blog in the last few months. Most of it was indeed arcade machine production and testing but there was also that tiny bit of 2600-related packaging stuff at the end.

There isn't a whole lot that I've personally found. There are some brief shots of engineers, testing various boards, scattered around, but I've not seen any of any production lines. icon_sad.gif Someone out there step forward and make our day. icon_mrgreen.gif Closest thing I've found recently, is this still shot from a promotional video of what looks to be the Atari 800, with units stacked on shelves, near-ready to be rolled out..

EDIT: My eyes are failing me. Looks like a printer, but much slimmer than I would expect for the period.
