Replacement PSU's

Your experience going that route may vary in terms of induced system/video noise depending on how clean the USB power end is. Modern equipment they are meant to hook into has power filtering for that purpose - the XL/XE don't have the same.

This is a good power supply for XL/XE:

....which looks exactly like the same one that Lotharek sells.....only he puts a nice 5 pin DIN connector on it.

Here’s a 1A AC 9V one:

9vac 500ma: 1010

9vac 600ma: 1030

9vac 1.7a: 400, 800, 822, 850

9vac 2.0a: 1200xl, Rana 1000

9vac 3.2a: 1020, 1050, xf551

9vdc 2.0a: indus GT (need to verify this)

Uh OOPS yep you're right 7 pins of course....wouldn't be pretty if it was 5 and someone....well you know...

Yeah...you're right...it's on the low side....If I really would need one I'd buy a loose transformer, add some fuses and built it into a nice little box....

I found B&E Electronics in Calgary and Saskatoon (Canada) has 9VAC 3.3A supplies, perfect rating match for the 1050, 810, XF551 etc.

https://www.be-electronics.com/product_p/rp093aa3.htm

Only problem is it comes with a 2.1x5.5mm barrel plug. The 1050 is 2.5mm, so you can either replace the connector on the wire (what I did) or get an adapter, which I recently discovered: https://www.ebay.com/itm/153004915738

good for USA, but being 120v, it won't help the UK/EU problem. back to drawing board for the OP, I'm afraid. :(

Sorry, yes it is a 120V supply... some previous posts that also looked like 120V stuff threw me off.

it's a shame the last UK/EU known good PSU - the Stontronics N56DL is no longer available.

i have three of them - the most I paid for any one of mine was £15 - which isn't bad in the current climate of scarcity

I might have found a supplier of 9v/3amp AC adapters for the UK, i'm waiting for the seller to get back to me and once i've made sure it works on my 1050 i'll report back and maybe we could do a group buy and get them a little cheaper; i'll keep you all informed

I am declaring interest also for a 1050 PSU :-). Located in Europe also :-)

On amazon, you find the RockPower PSU with european plug (and probably with UK plug if on Amazon.co.uk).

Here is the link to the French amazon site. But I am pretty sure that you will find the same item on the Amazon website for your country.

Yes I found the RockPower PSU from a seller in Germany and I am located in Belgium so ordered one for 16 euros :-). This is done.

  • 4 weeks later...

Are there any modern PSU's that are pin compatible

Plug in a Commodore 64 PSU and watch the sparks fly? Pin compatible yes, voltage no. How many Atari 8-bits were inadvertently nuked by Commodore supplies?

A Commodore supply could potentially be rewired if you knew *exactly* what you were doing.

the ebay ones look like converted router power supplies, the failure point on those is a capacitor... when they fail I don't believe they kill anything, you can replace the cap usually and get back to work.... I do know if the cap opens or shorts determines what bad things will or won't happen
