Intellivisionaries episode 35 - Space Patrol!

Recommended Posts

Intellivisionaries episode 35 is (finally!) up!

http://intellivisionaries.com/episode-35-space-patrol/

In this episode we review the Left Turn Only game Space Patrol. Rick also interviews the game programmer Joe Zbiciak, and has a new Hobby Projects segment on repairing and modding a Commodore 1902A monitor. Paul interviews Atari Age user and Intellivision enthusiast extraordinaire "Decle" (aka Ian). And we have all the other things you love about The Intellivisionaries; Feedback, News, stories, George, sarcastic humor, cheesy
50's SciFi, and Rick leaving the country in disgust! Wait... WHAT!?

Thanks for mentioning my box projects, obviously several more have come out since you recorded this, the Sega set, Mystic Castle, Super Pro Baseball and the CBS Electronics set, with 2 more sets in the works for release at PRGE.

Cheers, Steve

Lol! Apologies, in our defence it was current back in the 1970's when we recorded this episode 😂😂😂

I got mentioned twice in one episode. Does that make me an Intellivision celebrity now? ;)

Totally forgot about the Shark! Shark! promise for episode 36. That was such a long time ago! Too bad you guys just missed releasing it in time for Shark Week. ;)

Who says they missed it? Or is Shark Week canceled for next year? :P

Ever since Intellivision Revolution went 'porn', Rick has been upset.

I really enjoyed this episode.

Joe Zbiciak is just a pure genius.

One thing you guys did not mention is that Joe Z. also released a autumn / fall style "hack" of SPACE PATROL. He called it PUMPKIN SPICE PATROL ( because it seems everything should have this flavor )

You can download the game for free. Check out this thread

and for more on Joe Z., check out this interview:

ENJOY!

Good call, Tim. I blame the Reynold's Research Dept for the omission.

He’s too busy researching Commodore monitors.

As you should!

;-)

Even as you guys went into that segment I wasn't thinking about it until you mentioned it, lol. Glad to play a small part.

Great episode! Really enjoyable to listen to. The Space Patrol clips from TV & radio were an inspired (and likely time intensive) addition to the episode. The interviews with Ian and Joe were among the best you've had on the show!

I have to agree that Intellivision Space Patrol easily surpasses the arcade game. LTO's Space Patrol is one of my favorites, but I hadn't ever played the arcade version until two months ago when I got it going on my Raspberry Pi. Although it's fun, I was disappointed that it lacks the depth of play that Joe's release has.

Thanks for getting this one out the door, guys!

Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed it. I had fun with the 'Space Patrol' clips - I tried to make them fit somewhat contextually as best I could. So quaint / cheesy in that late '50s early '60s way.

Agreed on Ian, Joe and the game as well!

It did take a while to get this one out but I'm pleased I finally did, and was able to include everything I wanted. Oh, and props to 'George' for his contributions.

;-)

I just finished it. It's a crazy thing (crazy in a good way) that when I hit the 4-hour mark I said to myself "self, 'oh no' there is less than an hour left!". :)

The 3 hour, 23 minute, 17 second mark is the greatest point in any retro podcast, ever. Maybe any podcast, period.

I could've sworn we mentioned that! In fact, as I was listening to the show I was asking myself "When did I bring up the Pumpkin Spice Patrol rom?" But clearly I didn't!

Great listen...

Bummed I can't enjoy this great game on my way to work; jzintv4droid won't let me use a Bluetooth controller (way too hard with touch controls), and on Retroarch, your ship blows up right away for some reason...

Such a breakdown is well nigh unforgivable! That's it! Can I get a prorated refund for my subscription if I cancel right now? :P Then you'll be back down to 3 listeners.

Thanks to this episode, I re-discovered Space Patrol. Re-marveled at the whole package, just super quality! Sink some good time into it this weekend (although I continue to suck at it).

As a bonus, I got one of my sons to learn a little Poker & Blackjack. He said the card shuffling sound did not sound like cards shuffling at all, but then again he is 11 so anything that is not rendered like Overwatch with mega waveform audio is hard for him to understand sometimes.
