Modded up SEGA Genesis 1 HD Graphics VA2 motherboard

Recommended Posts

For sale is a SEGA Genesis Model 1 with various mods performed to it. First lets go over the bad parts

This machine was at the bottom of a box of old game consoles, there's a ton of scratches and dings on it (no cracks) and the silver on the 16 BIT part is mostly worn away. I touched it up with a paint pen, but it looks like someone touched it up with a paint pen. From a short distance the system looks ok

The volume slider knob is missing, I have not been able to find a replacement without buying a whole new machine so the one that is currently on the machine is 3D printed

Lets talk about what has been done

  • All electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with new
  • Brand new voltage regulators installed and the old white thermal grease replace with artic silver5
  • S-VIDEO output added
  • Stereo Line out added (and tapped before the headphone amp so it wont clip on loud sounds)
  • Pin 3 of the stock AV port no longer outputs composite, it now only outputs C-SYNC, this clears up RGB output on monitors that use the composite line for C-SYNC, pin 7 still retains C-SYNC at TTL levels for use with computer monitors
  • Cart slot widened to accept Japanese games (overall width is about 110mm)
  • Switch added to Switch between USA, Japan, and EU regions. PLEASE NOTE using composite or S-VIDEO with the system in EU region mode will produce a black and white picture, though it will produce color using RGB
  • Switchable overclock, run in normal 7.5 blah blah Mhz or 10Mhz
  • RGB power light (red USA normal speed, blue Japan normal speed, green EU normal speed, orange USA turbo speed, purple Japan turbo speed, white, EU turbo speed)

What you get:

Console, 1 3 button controller, s-video cable, composite + stereo audio av cable, power supply

What I want :

125$ shipped, USA and Paypal only

Open to offers, not really interested in trades (I have too much stuff as it is)

Thanks for looking

Well done. You took a junker system and elevated it to something special for sure. How did you create the longer cart slot flaps? I assume those are 3D printed too?

Does this genesis kick out a 50hz signal when you switch it to EU normal speed mode?

yes when in EU mode both normal and turbo speed its 50hz 576 line

in order to get color (in eu mode) on svideo or composite one would have to switch the colorburst reference clock from 3.57 (ntsc) to 4 something, course RGB doesnt use that (nor would a RGB to component converter)

I think the most useful feature of it would be to bypass a region lock (if any exists I know they do on later US vs Japan games) cause you can flip it back and forth while the machine is running and it will switch video modes
