2 Atari What ifs

Recommended Posts

Here are what ifs involving atari and who they sold it too.

#1 what if ATARI was not sold to Warner Comuncations (which they were called at the time)what do you think(you can say that atari was sold to anyone).

#2 what if Warner did not sell atari to Trammel but to someone else.(it could be anyone even Bushnell himself)

What do you say Later.

Whats with all the what ifs?

On the offchance that Atari would have had the money to release the 2600, they probably wouldn't have had the money to support it for long, since it really wasn't that profitable until Space Invaders came out.

And if Warner had sold it to someone else who the hell knows what would have happened? They could have shelved the 7800 and gone with the 5200, they coulda become a software company, they could have just been used as a label for floppy disk drives. Thats a what if with no answers.

Hard to say... I think Bushnell would have kept Atari more competitive at the very least. I think he would have pissed off less people than Atari did under other management. Atari was also much more creative under his control than it ever has been since (Including now).

Christ, I don't know... depends on who bought them. To be honest, the Tramiels weren't such a bad choice at the time... they had had quite a bit of success with Commodore, who would foresee them screwing things up so much?

It was Tramiels decision to scrap the 7800, and devote the company to computers instead. It was only after the NES rejuvenated the market that Atari finally decided the 7800 might be a good idea, but by then it was too late. But you can't really blame them for this decision... the market had just crashed, so by all indications, the 7800 wouldn't have been worth while. Perhaps they were just victims of bad timing... many of the same decisions would probably have been made regardless of who was in charge.

#1. The 2600 probably never would have been released because Atari needed that money to put it out.

#2 By then Atari was losing huge amounts of dough so I doubt many people could have turned them around.
