Interview of the Jaguar Dental Equipment CEO

Recommended Posts

Thanks Orion. Great video link you shared there. Its so fascinating hearing about dental cameras from 20 years ago, and even that was a failure as a piece of hardware. I especially liked seeing the old guy digging out old documents proving what we already knew. Really invigorating stuff.

Excellent video.

Just you know the Jacksonville Jaguars are a football team over here in the U.S. Nobody in their right mind ever says the Jacksonville Jag-YOU-ares.

Same applies to the car.

Same applies to the animal, except when you're watching a Nat-Geo animal documentary and some Euro guy says Jag-YOU-are

Its Jaguar...... JAG-WAR.

Also it's an American console. It should be pronounced the CORRECT American way.

I do. The quality of the post is in line with many Jaguar AA posts.

Have you met Madman?

Anyway how do you feel about getting those pearly whites photographed by one of those fancy pantsy Imigin Jaggy cams Punisher 5.0?

I bet it would be loads fun, and quite the experience to share with the community.

:)

Loved this.

I'm always keen to see fresh interviews relating to the Jaguar and it was fantastic to see him going through the old documentation.

Huge thanks for sharing this.

I skipped around a bit, but looking forward to watching the entire thing. The Jaguar lore seems never ending from the dental cam to the kid's "rides" that used the Jag inside. This cat has more than 9 lives.

Cool Video. I really enjoyed the fact that the guy really liked the design. Shame we don't know what happened with the CDROM molds.

It's refreshing, right? I still know people to this day that refer to it as some kind of space age toilet seat. Personally, I think it's a cool design.

The Jag is a cool design. I still maintain that it's the most attractive console case ever.

The Jag CD ruins the look of said design, I think.

That tool is probably responsible for at least 90% of the ignorant hatred that the Jag receives.

He is pretty funny though :)

If you read his FAQ, you'll see that his whole "angry gamer" character is just something he does for fun, and doesn't reflect his actual opinion of the games.

(I know, people never read FAQs.)

And trash-talking about the Jaguar long predates him, too. Gaming magazines were already doing it back when the Jaguar was still sold in stores.

Very true. While James Rolfe himself isn't a huge fan of the Jaguar, or the Jaguar CD, the Angry Video Game Nerd's a persona for sure.

As for the unit itself, one of the things I appreciate about the Jaguar and so many other consoles of the era, it definitely had a distinctive look. I mean, it looked like a sleek and sexy games machine. Nowadays, with exception to the Switch, Microsoft and Sony just look like cable boxes to me. Not shitting on the hardware or their respective games. Just saying they don't look all that appealing to me.

Up there with the Jaguar, to me at least, in sexiness is the Sega Saturn (it's sleek shape is so simple) and the Panasonic 3DO FZ-1. If I had to pick an ugly looking system I guess it would be the regular PS2.

But since the car brand is British, it should be pronounced the CORRECT British way. :P

Hah... here in the US, you get a lot of people who try to pronounce things from different countries... and they try to pronounce it as the country of origin would. But that's technically not how it's supposed to be.

British English and American English truly are different... not just in the way words are pronounced, but in the way grammar and punctuation is handled as well.

For example, in the UK the use of quotes is handled different than they are in the United States. In the US, if a quote comes at the end of a sentence, the punctuation goes before the quote, without question. This is the same for whether or not the punctuation even has anything to do with what is being quoted. While in the UK, it is very specific on whether or not the punctuation is part of the item being quoted (almost like parenthesis in software code).

But also... Aluminum versus Aluminium. It makes it complicated because English is very much the same from the UK, to Australia, to New Zealand, to Canada, to the US.

But a more obvious difference is how we in the United States say the country Brazil. In the US, it's pronounced and spelled "Brazil." In Spanish however, it's spelled Brasil and spelled differently. So, a person speaking American English wouldn't call the country Brazil... "Brasil…" because that would just be wrong. So while an American may like to call the Jaguar a "Jaguua," it's really just quite normal for us to say "jag-war."

Like Herb, and other words, or anything that starts with a "Z."

EDIT: As a fan, and occasional owner of Porsche cars... I will say that I'm guilty of that as well. "Porsh" is how we're supposed to say it... but oh does it irk me. I call it "Porsh-ah" even though I know it's not phonetically correct in American English.
