WaverBoy #1 Posted June 11, 2003 Has anyone replaced the battery in their NES Legend Of Zelda cartridge? I'm going to buy this used, and if it's possible to replace the battery if it's dead, I'll be a very happy gamer.
JerseyDevil #2 Posted June 11, 2003 I've done it. You need a soldering iron, the battery is held in by a drop of solder. You can buy the batteries at any Radio Shack.
Raijin Z #3 Posted June 12, 2003 I did it, but the results were less than satisfactory. The connections are solid, but the game randomly erases. Not when you shake it or bang it around, not when you randomly jam on the on/off button. Lithium batteries put out a constant charge until they die, so it's not a case of a weak battery. The battery was new. I'll scan the board and my "modification" when I get my scanners working, but in the mean time, here's my project page. Excuse the shitty pics, I was using a $20 digital pencam. http://jigoku.studio-zoe.com/projectz/trivolt.html
badbrad #4 Posted June 12, 2003 My Zelda wasn't soldered. It had a battery holder that the battery just slid into.
WaverBoy #5 Posted June 12, 2003 Thanks! I just bought a Zelda off eBay that is supposedly "completely tested and works great", so I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works, and that, if it doesn't work, it is the fabled BadBrad battery design. Raijin Z #6 Posted June 13, 2003 My Zelda's battery was WELDED to the contacts. I had to remove them completely and add a CR2032 connector just to keep the battery from losing contact. The cart was too shallow to attach the connector to the board, so I had to use wire. -_-
