adam1977 #1 Posted October 8, 2018 Can anyone please tell me the diameter of the centre pin on a 1050 disk drive please? I've bought a couple of new 3a 9v AC transformers and the plugs supplied are slightly too small and i'd like to see if I can get a small adapter for the plugs instead of cutting them off and soldering on new one's

I would guess 1 mm. I don't have a micrometer to measure it with. Cutting off a 1050 AC adapter plug would be straightforward. You don't have a stock1050 power adapter to get the plug from. Wait.. you have a busted 1050 power supply, Using that would be easier than getting an exact plug. Edited October 8, 2018 by russg
manterola #3 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Check this: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/281972-replacement-psus/page-2 #32 post you can see the adaptor you are looking for. Not 100% sure of the size, but I guess that is what you need. Another option (I did this). It to get this cable from ebay. You get 2 barrel connector at a very cheap price. Then cut and replace the original ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1xDC-5-5x2-5mm-1-Female-to-2-Male-Power-Splitter-Cable-For-Camera-0-7M-Copper-S1/263598960099?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Edited October 8, 2018 by manterola

xrbrevin #5 Posted October 9, 2018 FYI, i bought a 9v AC 2amp "Line 6 Variax 700" from amazon for £8.50 quid and its a straight fit for the 1050 - no modding required. There is a forum post on herre where someone did an oscilloscope test on the current draw of the 1050 and found it only needs 1.2amp
adam1977 #6 Posted October 9, 2018 Thanks for letting me know, I didn't know they only needed 1.2 amps, is that in all modes? I have found a UK eBay seller that is selling 9v 3amp AC transformers at £14.19 each, I bought two from him, but the plug size is 2.1mm x 5.5mm, but i've sorted that now. Here's the link if anyone wants an original spec Atari one: http://173560426585
+Nezgar #7 Posted October 9, 2018 3amp is good if you use that splitter.
_The Doctor__ #8 Posted October 9, 2018 3 amp is good if you use the splitter as well as have any dragging disks, experience a locked rotor or motor for a brief period or all of the aforementioned situations.. also depending on what mods or additional circuitry you have added to a drive... many many reasons that the choices should be in that realm.
