birdie3 #1 Posted June 11, 2003 I found a Colecovision and 20 games on the weekend. I really wanted one so I bought it and I am glad for doing so. This system rocks hard!! Now, I am looking to get some of the better Colecovision games and it appears to rather difficult compared to Atari or NES. Can someone shed some light on this subject for me in terms of what I am up against with getting a good collection started??
Ze_ro #2 Posted June 11, 2003 Actually, most of the best games are the easiest ones to get: Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Jr Ladybug Pepper II Gorf Buck Rogers Venture Frogger B.C.'s Quest For Tires Cabbage Patch Kids (Trust me, it's fun) Jumpman Jr. Gateway to Apshai Montezuma's Revenge Q*Bert Smurf's Rescue in Gargamels Castle Zaxxon Not all of those are common, but that'll be a good collection. --Zero
+opcode #3 Posted June 11, 2003 I would add Antarctic Adventure and all Atarisoft titles to Zero's list. Galaxian is a really good game on the CV. In fact if you have the chance, try to get hold of all Atarisoft prototypes repros released at CGE 2001 (Joust, Pac-Man and Dig-Dug). They are quite good too... However I must desagree about Buck Rogers. I am sorry but this game sucks big... And if you are into arcade ports, maybe you could want to reserve a copy of SIC. Modestly you won't find a better port of SI on any other classic system... Sorry, I just couldn't resist... Opcode
Lemmi #4 Posted June 11, 2003 List the games you already have
birdie3 #5 Posted June 11, 2003 Sure: Cosmic Avenger x2 Turbo x2 DK x2 (Trades anyone??) SubRoc Frenzy Pepper II Venture Space Fury Space Panic Gorf Blackjack/Poker Frogger Carnival Super Action Baseball
Mock #6 Posted June 11, 2003 get a dreamcast for $25 and make a colecovision CDR and try out the games, then you can pick up the ones you like on ebay...all of the games don't run correctly, but most are 90% or better...it is quite enough to get you going and allow you to see which ones you really like. Nothing beats the real thing though...and pick up a set of super action controllers, you won't be sorry. My advice... Mock
birdie3 #7 Posted June 11, 2003 Mock - I have both of those items and I would like to try that but I am a bit lost as to how to get these games running on the DC. Do I just download, burn the roms, and start playing or do I need an emulator or what?? Help me... please.
joeybastard #8 Posted June 11, 2003 I would also look for: The Heist Miner 2049er 2010 Wargames Hell I like almost all Coleco games, get 'em all!
eldunko #9 Posted June 11, 2003 I'd also add: Pitstop - Interstingly fun, cool courses too, although its hard to tell what it looks like
Inky #10 Posted June 11, 2003 WarGames is easily one of the best games produced for the console. I also enjoyed Tapper, Congo Bongo, Space Panic, Frenzy, Frogger, and QBert
Zeus #11 Posted June 11, 2003 By the way, can anyone get past level 3 in Q-bert? You know the one with the squares that switch infinitely back and forth in colour.
Ze_ro #12 Posted June 12, 2003 Do I just download, burn the roms, and start playing or do I need an emulator or what?? Just download this CD image, and find a copy of Disk Juggler or Alcohol 120% to burn it with (it's a .CDI image). The image already contains tons of games, and should work without any problems. Just stick it in your DC, and turn it on. --Zero
tiggerthehun #13 Posted June 12, 2003 Zero - Hey, thanks for posting that link - I know it wasn't directed to me specifically, but it's one I'm happy to intercept. HOWEVER - I can't download it - I'm getting an "access forbidden" error?!?! Help?!?!
tyranthraxus #14 Posted June 12, 2003 The CV is awesome!! You got a great starter set there if you find that you don't like the joysticks you can use a 2600 one and use the keypad in port 2. This works for most games but there are a few that need 2 fire buttons or the keypad. I advise you to stay away from the Super Action games because the SA controllers are bad. Which is too bad because Rocky is pretty decent (and lets you play as Mr T!!) and SA Baseball has very impressive graphics for the time. Space Fury while merely an average game has a very hilarious alien greeting. Its used as the digitpress.com intro animation. Its ultra rare but very fun: Qberts Qubes, DK Jr, Burgertime, Ladybug & Mr. Do! I would add to your list in addition to the ones mentioned earlier. As for collecting, in Canada the CV was very popular and shows up as often as INTV but not as much as the 2600. I've reached a point where I've given up on finding anything new and have resorted to ebay. IMHO the CV has declined in prices since I first collected it about 3 years ago. A lot of rare games that sold for $10-20 then, now are selling for 10 or less. Tapper I recall being in the $15-20 range but now shows up a lot and is under $10. I got for $7 not long ago awesome game BTW! However Burgertime seems to be pricey right now. John
Zeus #15 Posted June 12, 2003 Yahoo! Just bought a Burertime for $5! Anyone have a Jumpan Jr?
birdie3 #16 Posted June 12, 2003 Yes.... I have been reading up on rarity lists, ebay, fan sites etc.. The CV does seem to be pretty amazing. It was VERY popular where I am from and I do remember playing the system as a kid. Most of the games you guys have mentioned are ones that I would get if I could find them. My best bet is to pick up a nice sized lot from ebay (so it seems).
