AtGames Officially Unveils Legends Ultimate Home Arcade (full-size machine)

Looks like the Star Wars license is for the Super NES titles on this system.  Not sure I care for that... but it's pretty cool to see those games.

There seem to be a lot more console games on this and less of the arcade games.  I'll wait to read some more info on it before making a decision.

Live stream going on now aimed at giving AtGames feedback regarding this cabinet.

I think it's probably too late to do some of the things they're talking about, though, which include some my own past criticisms. At this point, for me personally it's all about the quality of the cabinet and controls, since I would probably hack a PC into it anyway.

NOTE: skip to about 8 minutes in. He was having audio issues, so it doesn't really start till then.

I have to say the game lineup for this machine is pretty underwhelming.  Most of the built-in games are console games and I already have a lot of them from prior Flashback units.  Some big titles like Zaxxon exist as console ports, but not arcade versions.  And for arcade games, there's only four licensees.

Personally, I have an aversion to monthly fees, and I have no intentions to hack the hardware, so the built-in game library was always the draw for me.  And for me it's not worth the asking price.  So I'm going to pass.

Interesting game lineup (Even has Top Gear/Top Racer for the Super Nintendo, which apparently Kemco no longer owns?). But I'd rather see a Jaleco/Data East Flashback Classics collection from AtGames/Code Mystics for the PS4/XB1/NS. Some neat games there like Cisco Heat that I'd love to see on a home console.

Any Atari arcade games here that weren't in the Flashback collections, minus Drag Race which I already noticed as I glanced through it? Was kind of hoping it wouldn't have any, since it feels like a missed opportunity to not include it on Atari Flashback Classics Volume 3.

I really doubt we can hope for a volume 4 for the Atari Flashback Classics line. I imagine the only chance of something like Drag Race making it out on current gen systems is if they were to do a XB1/PS4 release that compiles all 150 games together (Like what the Vita and Switch got), with it spiced up with a few new arcade games to get people like myself to double dip.

Now that the 350 games list is out, some of the next milestones we can look forward to include:

  • At launch, will there be games for purchase from the online AT game store (i.e., these are the download & run locally games - not streamed)
  • What is the initial list of games that will be available for purchase from the online store (i.e., not the streaming games)
  • What is the cost to purchase a game (again - not streaming)

Like any app store, it is expected that the AT online game store will grow over time and may have a range of prices.

i think you will need 3 hands to play tron.

otherwise how are you going to move, rotate and shoot all together.

will be clunky.

It's a little easier with the spinner in the new location, but yes, it really will need the third party joystick under development to play optimally.

It appears that way, yes. Hopefully the retailers and dates will be announced soon. There's a lot of coordination needed for this one in terms of getting the dates right, etc.

edit- never mind; answered my own question...

There will be external controller support for those who want to play games with something other than the built-in control panel. I have not yet seen how well integrated it is yet, i.e., if an external gamepad will work with every game or just some games that wouldn't work well with the onboard controls (like Fortnite, to use one example). Since it's an open API and open system, I suspect that whatever features aren't implemented out of the box, are slow to be implemented, or not implemented to one's liking, there will be plenty of cool solutions out there available.

Was looking at the game list and was impressed by these inclusions:

-Nightshade (presume this is the Ultra game for Nintendo Entertainment System, now credited to Piko)

-Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingston (NES, Piko)

-Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Disney...surprised Ghoul School not included)

I echo a statement from above about the Super Star Wars games, although from a different angle: it's great they are included but would have enjoyed seeing the two Star Wars games for NES from JVC included. Someday I would love to see At Games get into actual development/original content and make a Return of the Jedi NES title to complete that series. Also surprised Disney didn't license Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures

Don't take that as criticism...this system is shaping up to be a great project with an enviable game list.

Never really heard of Piko...looked it up, and I guess it owns the rights to some old games.

Yep, and you don't have to consider the 350 built-in games as the ending. You can purchase more from the online store, stream them with the paid service, plug in one of the AtGames Blast!'s or consoles, or use a variety of the other methods to access your own games (and, as stated above, I'm sure there will be plenty of cool community solutions to further extend the latter).
