Arcadia 2001 - Repair video out, A/V upgrade ?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've been trying to get my classic consoles up and running for a cabinet I trying to work with (against my wife's views). I have been working, upgrading and fixing consoles that I have.

So, the problem with my Arcadia 2001, It powers on but, I get no RF out. Nothing changes on the TV. The light comes on like it is turning on.

Assuming it's working fine besides the RF out, should I attempt a A/V out and see if it works, or where should I start with this one? I tried to pull it apart but, the entire head shield is soddered so I don't want to do it unless I have a plan.

Thanks !

Well, I pulled the cover, it appears someone else has been here (I picked this up mid 90's for almost $10 with like 10 games, that I still have), there was no bottom shield and the metal of the top was all bent up... And there is cap blown and some IC are blown. I'll see if I can fix that before trying the A/V mod. The big cap on the board poppped, didn't leave a mess but, I'm sure it's not doing anything.

I see no traces of bad solder joints, so it looks like it died, someone pulled it apart thinking they could fix it and saw blown caps and just put it back together.

That is a good thing.

Anyway if anyone is interested, after some searching we ran in into this...

And it clearly shows my symptoms

Arcadia power LED lights up but unit otherwise appears dead Coils L4 and/or L5 may be open circuit. Remove and bypass coils with jumper wires. They seem intended to prevent EMF but mostly they just fail.

We replaced the failed CAP and replaced the coils on L4 and L5 with some jumpers, she works again. A A/V mod would not have fixed this.
