WTB a working VCR

I am looking for a good working VCR. If it had Svideo or component I would be willing to pay a lot more .

You should check your local goodwills and thrift shops. I have found vcrs for $5 quite often.

So true, I don't go to many thrift stores anymore but the times I have, VCR's are usually piled 10 or 12 high and very cheap. Not a bad idea to pick a few up for down the road when that isn't the case anymore.

The VCR/DVD combo units are your best bet for component output.

I’m looking at a JVC 8000U on eBay, are those as good as the rep about them.

I got a really good Sony VCR from 1992 (some older VCRs are way better). The only problem was that it has text that wont come of the screen unless you turn it off. And the only way to turn it off was with the remote. I had to buy the remote for it on Ebay. But once it arrived it has been the best VCR I have ever had. Old movies look great on it and has 2x stereo composite inputs! No S-Video or component but it suits my needs. Most VCRs you'll find at Goodwill only have mono composite and RF only. They really cheaped out on VCRs in the mid 2000s.

I was transferring an old movie to DVD recently and the stereo VCR had a horrible static sound on the playback, but once I switched to a mono VCR it sounded fine.

One of the channels on the tape must have been bad.

Ended up finding a good vcr and some vhs tapes on eBay last week.

There never was a vcr with component video. Unheard of at the time.

 

If you use a Super-VHS to play a regular VHS tape through the S-Video jack it will look a lot cleaner!

 

No "dot crawl" from the video circuit inside your tv separating the video from the chroma also known as the "comb filter".

 

VHS machines record the video & chroma separately which is why they look better on a SVHS machine!

We had those last couple JVC & Hatachi machines in the video editing room at my High School (obviously not the HDMI one). The Wheel was good for going frame by frame without static on screen as found when pausing with 2 head (and even some 4 head) machines. I think they where 6 head SVHS machines? That was in the mid 90's so if those pictured are newer than that they sure look like the ones we used at school.
