Tempest #1 Posted June 12, 2003 I have an Atari TT030 on which I need to reformat the hard drive. how does one go about doing this? What files do I need to save onto a disk and reinstall? Can someone give me a step by step on how to do this since I have little ST knowledge. Tempest
+Sauron #2 Posted June 12, 2003 Do you know if the hard drive is the one that came stock with the TT030? I know that Atari included a utilities disk, but I don't know exactly where to get one.
Tempest #3 Posted June 12, 2003 I believe it is the stock one. I can check the variosu sites for such a disk. Tempest
atarianer2003 #4 Posted June 12, 2003 Hi! You need the AHDI-Disc (you can it download here: http://www.atari-computermuseum.de/AHDI.zip ) Extract this file with WinZip, WinAce or something like these programs. With HDX.PRG you can format your Hard Disk, with AHDI.PRG the driver will be installed. At second you need SHDRIVER.SYS (also as download-file on my homepage, click on this: http://www.atari-computermuseum.de/SHDRIVER.SYS ) This file must be copied in the root of your Hard disk. Tempest #5 Posted June 12, 2003 Ok I tried the formating utility and it doesn't work. It wants me to select a phsical unit and Unit 0 is the only one that I can select. Then it says that it doesn't exist. Any ideas? Tempest

Tempest #7 Posted June 13, 2003 It's partitioned into 6 sections. Tempest
+Sauron #8 Posted June 13, 2003 My guess is that it probably needs to be repartitioned, although I don't know how to do that on an ST/TT.
Tempest #9 Posted June 13, 2003 Anyone? Tempest
atarianer2003 #10 Posted June 13, 2003 I can send you the "SCSITOOL". But it's a program in german language. Mike
Tempest #11 Posted June 13, 2003 Wont do me much good unless you can walk me through it. I wonder why I'm having so many problems? All I want to do is wipe my hard drive and get rid of all these damn partitions (does anyone really need 6?). Tempest
atarianer2003 #12 Posted June 13, 2003 (does anyone really need 6?) I have only 2 (one for system files, 5 MB, and the second for the rest) Mike
atarianer2003 #13 Posted June 13, 2003 The e-mail with program and a very short description is on the way to you Mike
Mendon #14 Posted June 13, 2003 Hopefully atarianer2003's Email will help you out, Tempest. I fired up my Mega last night, tried both the ICD and Atari HD programs from floppy disk and like yours both programs allowed me to select physical unit 0 only (since I only have a Megafile 30 connected at present time), but unlike yours, my Mega knew the drive was there and I could have formatted or partitioned it if I wanted to. Without seeing what's actually going on, I can't help much as to why your TT can boot from the HD but when you run a HD program from floppy it doesn't recognize it. Most strange.... Sorry, I can't be more help but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. Mendon
Tempest #15 Posted June 13, 2003 Ok that program seemed to get rid of all those partitions, so I tried to use the formatting program. Once again it said that the drive didnt exist so I tried to install the HD driver (AHDI) and that seemed to work ok. I used that other program for installing a HD (HINSTALL) and that hung. So now I'm stuck with no hard drives and I can't seem to format it. Any ideas? Tempest
Tempest #16 Posted June 13, 2003 Ok I found something new. When I tried to use the ADHI program it actually says "Not Bootloaded" really quick afterwards (that's why I missed it). Any ideas? Do I have to boot it from the disk? If so how do I do that? Tempest
atarianer2003 #17 Posted June 14, 2003 Now try this: Boot with your AHDI-Disc (when you switch on your TT, hold down the 'CONTROL'-Key for a while. The TT will boot from FDD) Then run "AHDI.PRG", after this try HDX.PRG. I hope, that will help
Tempest #18 Posted June 14, 2003 Nope no dice. It still says not bootloaded. Any more ideas? Tempest
atarianer2003 #19 Posted June 14, 2003 Copied "SHDRIVER.SYS" on A: ? (in the root)
Tempest #20 Posted June 14, 2003 I think so. a: has: Hinstall.rsc Shdriver.sys AHDI.prg Hinstall.prg and the HDX folder with all that stuff. Tempest
Tempest #21 Posted June 15, 2003 Ok as far as I can tell my hard drive isn't being recognized anymore which is why I can't format it. When I try to run the driver ADHI.PRG from either the disk once the desk top is loaded or auto booting it always gives me the same "Not Bootloaded" message. Any ideas?
