Opry99er
Jim, have you been able to ascertain the issue with Vic's cart yet? Is it fixable?
+Ksarul
It will be obvious once you see the pictures--it probably won't be fixable without replacing the innards with an UberGROM board programmed with the correct ROM and GROM files. There is definitely no way to reprogram or replace the original blobbed chips on this board.
Opry99er
Don't we have a ROM (not GROM) dump of St. Nick? We could put that on a standard cart board and put it back in that case, couldn't we?
atrax27407
Yes - I have one - so does Jon Guidry. It is a single 8K file. AFAIK, it runs fine. The dump I have was made directly from a cartridge and was in the Lima Library more than 20 years ago. +Ksarul
True--but I also want to make sure we preserve this GROM/ROM variant, as it does work on V2.2 consoles.
Opry99er
*^^^good thought. Is it salvageable from a dump standpoint?

+Torrax
Here's my Funware ROM dumps from various sources over the years. The only dump with a GROM was ST. NICK. This was from a friend from Innisfail, Alberta (old Red Deer 99'ers U.G.). Funware_Modules.zip

I thought all St. Nick carts would be with a GROM since on the box for St. Nick it says "Guaranteed to work on all current and future versions of the TI-99/4A". +Ksarul
There is also a single 8K ROM variant in circulation, which is why I wanted to make sure both were preserved, Toucan.
iliketurtles
I never noticed that, Toucan!

Never knew there would be a non-GROM version, due to the box and marketing. If anything, the ROM version would be the rare one. I'd be interested in finding out where that came from. +Ksarul
It may have been prepared for the ROMOX cartridge stations, as a lot of the Funware titles were included as selections there.

Ah, very good possibility. You are right about Funware having a lot of titles on that machine. Cave Creatures being one of them.

iliketurtles
Ditto for the Schnoz-Ola box. Probably all Funware carts after St.Nick would have that small board with the GROM.

+Ksarul
Toucan, didn't you have a Schnoz-Ola prototype? If so, it may also have the GROM board, as Competition Computer used the 8K file from the ROMOX programming stations for their reproduction cartridges. That would also solidify the assumption that Funware had two code variants for their later cartridges--GROM cartridge and ROMOX ECPC. Are we in need of a dump of it perhaps? Now, would there be anything taken out of these games to fit in 8K, or were they 8K to begin with and the GROM was just to work on v2.2 consoles? +Ksarul
Definitely--especially if you look inside and see that there is a super-tiny board in there! You can even do that without opening the case--just look through the cartridge slot.
atrax27407
I've got an 8K Schnozola cart as well.
+Ksarul
Right, as I expect that pretty much all of them except for Toucan's prototype had their origin in a ROMOX machine, which could only handle 8K ROM images.
Toucan
Owen Brand has been nagging me to take pics of my boxed Funware collection. So I figured there's no better opportunity to show it off and brag than here in this thread about Funware carts Here you go Owen and anyone else that is interested
