Does anyone have a .bin of Terminal Emulator II (TEII) (PGM3035) Basic? I would like to run it from my FinalGROM99 (FG99) cart. When I run the ones that I can find (TE-IIC.BIN, TE-IIG.BIN) they are like selecting option 2 and 3 from the TEII cartridge. Even if I do a warm boot and select option 1 Basic when the TEII options 2 and 3 are showing, the Basic does not have the speech functionality. Is there a trick or is there a separate TEII Basic .BIN available?

How are you attempting to make it speak? Code examples?

10 CALL CLEAR
20 OPEN #1:"SPEECH",OUTPUT
30 PRINT "A Visit from St. Nicholas":"By Clement Clarke Moore"
40 PRINT #1:"A VISIT FROM SAINT NICK O LUSS BY CLEMENT CLARK MOORE"
This works great when I have the TEII cartridge in and select option 1 Basic.

Yep. So you're saying when you load the bin from your FG, it doesn't give you an option to PRESS 1 for BASIC?

***nevermind, I see***

For some reason, BASIC doesn't give you speech functionality when TE2 is in the slot... when using FG99.

Weird

Hey there,

I Have had this working, I modified mine to capture LPC to HIGHMEM. Oddly enough, I am getting intermittent errors. Out of 8 tries I got I/O error 04 or some other strange garbage or a lockup. I did get it to respond twice using 1 HI (ENTER) LIST "SPEECH".

I'm considering switching the cartridge edge connector...

**edit

I tried a different SPEECH SYNTH. Same results...

sometimes err 02 or 32

You may be in luck... there is an auction << HERE >> where the guy has not one, but TWO affordable TE II cartridges with Free Shipping. Only $14.95 total.

Thank you Omega, I already have a TEII cartridge, I just wanted to be able to run it from the FG99 cart so I don't have to change carts. I appreciate you looking them up though.

You should be able to select TEII from the fg99 menu, do a function = quit. Then the menu should show TI BASIC and TEII. Select TI BASIC and you should be Im business.

When I try this, even though the menu looks right, the TEII basic commands do not function.

Have you talked to Ralph?

I have not. I wasn't thinking it was an issue with the FG99, just that a .bin was not made of the TEII Basic option.

I just tried the method that sparkdrummer suggested (select TE II from the FG99 menu, fctn+=, 1 for TI BASIC, etc) - and it works for me.

I copied the archive down that is on whtech and just unzipped it onto my FG99 SD card - you might want to try that and just see if you have a bad TE II image.

What code did you try using this method? Did you try the example code that I posted?

I downloaded the TEII archive and tried it again. I get "*I/O ERROR 00 IN 20". Line 20 = 20 OPEN #1:"SPEECH",OUTPUT

I would appreciate it if you could confirm that the code works for you.

As for this being a method of sorts... I'm lost...

It's true that you need to visit the master title screen to get SUBPROGRAM CALLS or in this case an external DEVICE NAME to work in BASIC with FG99. However there is no way to bypass the Title screen and get to basic after selecting TEII or DEFAULT OPTION TEII from the FG99 menu. :?

I actually used your program from above to test it.

I made a video that I placed on YouTube. Forgive the quality - I was shooting it from my iPhone, so it may be a little shaky in places.

But it seems to work ok for me.

Thank you for the video and for testing this! Now I need to locate the .bin files you downloaded from whtech.

CONFIRMED - I downloaded from whtech the \cartridges\FinalGROM99\FinalGROM99.zip and extracted it to the SD card and it does work! My TE-IIC.BIN, TE-IIG.BIN files from before must have been a bad image as Casey indicated!

Thanks again Casey and to everyone for their input and help! YOU ROCK!

should be in https://ftp.whtech.com/Cartridges/FinalGROM99/

I tested this, and it works as expected if you just hit fctn-= after loading TE2 and then load basic..

One main reasons the Terminal Emulator II cartridge BIN is so hard to find is because it's not listed by name, but by it's TI catalog number of: PHM 3035.

Hopefully by posting it here, in the future people will be able to easily find it with a search.

This didn't solve my problem... strange thing is Synth works fine with a real TEII cart... I'm not having any other problems with the FG99, other than one that Ralph has verified is not unique to mine...

Some months ago I hit my INTERRUPT switch while not realizing the FG99 menu was loaded instead of my MINIMEMORY program. This barged into the menu from a strange entry point. Since then, the bus control button has functioned as "one shot" instead of "toggling".

I'm wondering if I should update my AVR?
