adamchevy
Has anyone ever heard of Nap consumer electronics company? I’m looking at buying this monitor but I can’t find anything about this company or this monitor anywhere on the internet. It looks like it had composite video? adamchevy
I’m assuming this is a green phosphor monitor?
cuda_man
Yep, North American Philips, later Philips Consumer Electronics. Their former headquarters were just outside of Knoxville, off I-40 exit 396 in Strawberry Plains. The old sign still overlooking I-40 East still shows the labelscar from those days. cuda_man
Here's a news report from 1979 on the groundbreaking for the former NAP headquarters in Knoxville My hometown Greeneville, TN, an hour from Knoxville, was the site of much of Philip's TV assembly operations for decades until the early-2000's. They were the town's largest employer and occupied multiple building here. Everyone knew at least one person who worked for them.
Flojomojo
Philips is completely out of personal electronics now, isn’t it? Just medical equipment and toothbrushes, I think. I kinda wish they’d turn over the Videopac/Odyssey rights to someone who cared.
