zezba9000
Maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing but can't find any 5200 controller replacements / alternatives. I mean 2600, 7800, XEGS, etc are all the same and easy to find but 5200 seems to have very little support. Even if Arduino project source code is all there is, better than nothing. I have to many projects so looking for the best / easiest option.
bohoki
the most simple option in the 5200 faq is to make an adapter to use pc gameport joysticks and gamepads
edladdin
I've just started working on an arcade controller for the 5200, but I'm a long way from the finish line.
AtariBrian
Curt will soon be selling 5200 self centering analog arcade controllers . http://atariage.com/forums/topic/285914-new-desktop-arcade-controllers/
+DrVenkman
I have built two of Scott Baker's thumbstick controllers and I'm very happy with them. I've also built two of his Masterplay clones but some reason they don't seem to work with my 4-switch 5200. It's too bad, too, because there are so many good ports of games that would otherwise work great with standard sticks.
zezba9000
@bohoki Not finding the FAQ you're talking about? @AtariBrian Those don't seem to have a keypad? @DrVenkman Like this option but looks very time consuming. If there was Arduino capable code that would be best. Then I could get an arduino keypad and gamepad to relay the input to the console. zezba9000
@DrVenkman Masterplay clones look like the most future proof solution but again so much more convenient to base a converter off standard Arduino parts and code. zezba9000
I'm going to look into maybe making a PS2/PS4 Arduino converter. PS2 Arduino input: https://github.com/madsci1016/Arduino-PS2X PS2 adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pcs-wholesale-Replacement-9-Pin-Female-Connector-Game-Controller-Socket-Slot-for-PS2-Console-for-playstation/32769355434.html OR PS4: https://www.instructables.com/id/Creating-a-DualShock-4-Controlled-Arduino/ PS4 Arduino USB Shield: https://store.arduino.cc/usa/arduino-usb-host-shield Digital Potentiometer: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/DigitalPotentiometer Keypad: https://www.amazon.com/Adafruit-3x4-Phone-style-Matrix-Keypad/dp/B00QSHPCO8/ With the arduino option swapping out different controller options is easy once the Atari 5200 controller IO part works. Well, about an hour to solder the parts and 20 seconds to program the ATtiny85 versus … how many hours/days are you willing to invest into reinventing the wheel with an Arduino? Just sayin' …
