Flashback 8 Hacks

Recommended Posts

I recently installed a USB cable to add games to my Flashback 8.

I have noticed many of the newer homebrews (DKVCS, Pacman 8k, Pacman Arcade, Galaxian Arcade, etc.) don't work properly.

I was wondering if there is anyway to resolve these issues.

Perhaps rom tweaks or is it possible to update the Stella version on the Flashback itself?

My issues with a 9 is as follows:

1) My favorite thing to do with a Flashback is play warlords with friends. As of now there are no FB9 paddles.

2) Not a huge deal but I'd like to be able to add games with info and cover art seamlessly (not have a internal and seperate sd card set of games) to the interface of the Flashback. (This may be possible with the 9, IDK)

3) I already own and have hacked the 8 and uploaded all the artwork and paid $80 (I think) for it last year.

4) I am hoping next years model will have 4 wireless paddle support.

If the 9 paddles became available and worked really well, I might jump at it. It seems unlikely they will see the light of day at this point.

Would you mind sharing the instructions on how to add a USB port?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is what I used:

I initially bought and tried to use the usb header pin but it did not work. I ended up just cutting the end of a USB cable off and soldering it directly to the board.

Do you mind taking a pic?

Also, did you really have to solder or can I use electrical tape and exposed wires off a usb cord be good enough?

Lastly, what would the wiring diagram look like?

I appreciate any help that you can provide. I have a ton of USB cables that can be sacrificed to the cause. Don’t laugh, but I really want to add Battle Zone to my FB8, because it’s one of my favorite games.

You would definitely need to solder. I don't have pics as its all back together. I thought the link had pictures and step by steps.
