Velvis
I recently installed a USB cable to add games to my Flashback 8. I have noticed many of the newer homebrews (DKVCS, Pacman 8k, Pacman Arcade, Galaxian Arcade, etc.) don't work properly. I was wondering if there is anyway to resolve these issues. Perhaps rom tweaks or is it possible to update the Stella version on the Flashback itself?
boggis the cat
Perhaps rom tweaks or is it possible to update the Stella version on the Flashback itself? The Flashback 8 doesn't use Stella. It has a custom Atgames emulator, unfortunately. You should try the versions made for the Flashback portable.
atarifan88
I have a FB8 then decided to get the FB9 Gold as those games work on the 9. It may be a cost issue, but it's the easiest way to play those games in HD!
Velvis
My issues with a 9 is as follows: 1) My favorite thing to do with a Flashback is play warlords with friends. As of now there are no FB9 paddles. 2) Not a huge deal but I'd like to be able to add games with info and cover art seamlessly (not have a internal and seperate sd card set of games) to the interface of the Flashback. (This may be possible with the 9, IDK) 3) I already own and have hacked the 8 and uploaded all the artwork and paid $80 (I think) for it last year. 4) I am hoping next years model will have 4 wireless paddle support. If the 9 paddles became available and worked really well, I might jump at it. It seems unlikely they will see the light of day at this point. Velvis
Here is what I used: http://atariage.com/forums/blog/687/entry-15078-modding-the-flashback-8-hd/ I initially bought and tried to use the usb header pin but it did not work. I ended up just cutting the end of a USB cable off and soldering it directly to the board.

Also, did you really have to solder or can I use electrical tape and exposed wires off a usb cord be good enough? Lastly, what would the wiring diagram look like? I appreciate any help that you can provide. I have a ton of USB cables that can be sacrificed to the cause. Don’t laugh, but I really want to add Battle Zone to my FB8, because it’s one of my favorite games.
