Is it just me but I can't see 9 and 0 buttons on the Super Action Controller prototype.

Which is why it's called a prototype. :P

Coleco probably didn't consider 100% compatibility with all ColecoVision games a priority, but they changed their minds at the last minute, mostly given that any third-party publisher could release a game that makes full use of the keypad (*cough* Apshai *cough*).

ColecoVision Prototype #3

Probably the most obscure Colecovision prototype!

Not much is known from this one, and not much pictures available other than this one

This is probably where things changed the most in the design.

The Cartridge placement has been switch back to its original position (see first prototype)

The faceplate is identical to the final design of the console

The Controller have a few changes, it uses the very same bold font for the numpad, although the Asterix and Dial has been changed back to black.

The Speed Roller has changed position, now under the engraved Coleco logo

The side buttons are now grey instead of blue like in the previous designs

The Cartridge slot is still have a perfect rectangle...

This thread is awesome, amazing stuff.

Thanks!

I'm currently working on a Coleco (video) Documentary
From their humble beginning to the bankruptcy in 1989

During the last months, I've been buying all sorts of Coleco (B&W) photos wich I've (in most case) colorized
I'm also on the hunt for more Coleco Catalogs (please, contact me if you have any), I'm only missing a few ones

Lastly, once the documentary is done, Toby and I are planning to contact the current owner of the Coleco Montreal (Canada) building to see if we could set up a museum there.
We're up to give ALL of our Coleco stuff to this museum.

I haven't been to Montreal in a decade.  This might give me an excuse to make a trip back!

I just found out that there's another Roller Controller prototype!

So here's the Revision of the Controller Prototypes: (4 prototypes total)

BTW: (New find is the proto#3)

Moving the buttons in Roller Controller was a really good design decision. Would've been very difficult to use in the position on the earlier prototypes. Appears like they really tried to make it work with the earlier prototypes and then finally gave in to having the buttons in the middle.

Wow!... what is it?   It is a tape reader for the colecovision?...  something like the supercharger on Atari VCS?

Yes, it has been released for the AtariVCS, but never for the ColecoVision

The protoype for Smurf Saves the Day (for CV) has also been found a couple years ago
