I find the ships coming up from the bottom usually get me before i can get out of the way... Do you keep the second ship with you mostly or separate from it? Any special buttons, etc? Wish the controls for this one were in the manual like the other two games, but then it wouldn't have been too much of a secret! LOL I try to keep the other one with me, and use the shield from time to time. and the one coming from bottom get me alot also.
