River Patrol Proto or not? Help me on this one...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I need some help from the 2600 specialists here. Today I got this version of Tigervision's River Patrol for the 2600. Because of some things I am wondering wheter it is a prototype or a regular version of the game.

I put some pics on the web. Please check 'em out and help me with any info. follow the link:

Thanks in advance,

Steffan

ARGGGGGGGGGGG, was this the german auction. I have miss the last minutes from this auction. Forget it. How much have you enter? When I not forget it I have maybe enter a bit over 50,- Euro. :x

It looks like a Prototype for me, I think. But I have never see a Tigervision Prototype from inside. But normaly there is no lable on the Eproms.

When you will sell it, let me know. ;)

PS: The same seller has sell 2 other games without lables. Maybe these were too Prototypes. Piece o´Cake & Picnic.

Arggg, I miss this great auction. Stupid me. :x

Congratulation, I would say you have make a great deal. :)

Congratulations, you have yourself a genuine prototype. From the looks of it it's probably the final version, but still a proto is a proto.

Well there's not way to be 100% sure its a real prototype (aside from asking the programmer if he recognizes it), but there are a few give aways.

First of all here's an NTSC River Patrol proto: http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/r.../riverproto.htm

Notice the similarities in the EPROM label and board type? Also note that the EPROMs on your prototype have L and H on them, that stands for HI and LO. The sticker on the cart also is similar to other Tigervision prototypes I've seen.

Thanks for the info.

As I am a proto-nitwit, what does Hi en Lo mean on an eprom?

That's for the two 4K ROM banks (lower and higher 4K).

BTW: You should dump the ROM and compare it with the existing one(s?).

BTW, Tempest, the other Tigervision proto I was talking about (remember the one I couldn't find when I scanned the River Patrol for you) looks identical to this guys board. It also has 2 4K chips.

Nice find.

36euros! Bargain! Just shows you that bargains can still be had!

Have you checked gameplay compared to the NTSC version? Is it just a direct PAL conversion?!

EUR 36.00 what a steal  :!:

@ Matty you only bid 21 euro's  :?  :?

Yes, I have forget the auction. And after I remember it, it was already over. :x

Stupid me. Maybe when I not forget it, I would enter 50,- - 80,- Euro. :ponder:

Next time I enter my highest price at the beginning. ;)

But I was so stupid and have play Starfox Adventures. Then I forget the auction.

But the other problem was, that it was listed only as a normal release without lable (and I miss the game too, so I want it, and forget it). But I have think a bit, that it can maybe a Prototype. But this is impossible have I think then.

So double stupid me.

PS: When I have know it, that it was a Prototype, then I would enter much over 100,- Euro. Maybe 150,- Euro.

Prototype or not, a 150 is still quite low, I would not have taken any risk, if you paid 300 euro´s it would still be a steal, finding that game cheaper will never happen.
