2600 Trooper joystick

I received my Retron 77 last week, and it came with 'The Trooper.' I like it, though it's not my favorite. Time will tell how it holds up, though I'm not typically very hard on joysticks, so someone else will have to answer that question most likely.

It's probably not a very good candidate for 7800 2-button conversion. While the two buttons are comfortable for left and right handed play, they aren't convenient for simultaneous use. Having just opened my stick, it also has only a 6 wire cable, so that would have to be replaced if converting for 7800 use.

One thing I definitely like about the Trooper, is that while the action is soft, it's very easy to feel diagonals, unlike many rubber membrane sticks/pads.

Anyone have one of these?

Looks great with tapered edges and 2 fire buttons for left & right handed players!

Bet it would be easy to hack a 7800 controller wire into it for separate fire buttons!

You'd have to turn it sideways then so the buttons are basically on top of each other. We had a Wico for the 5200 modified like that at one of the local shows a few years ago; certainly made it better...

I have two of them. I think the problems have been sorted by now I bought them 4 weeks ago no problems so far. One thing I have to say is these look amazingly cool and feel like the original or better. I just like them. Thats one thing I would stay with the extra controller even if I sold my retron77.

Quick update. I've been using my Trooper 77 for a couple of months now and I have to say that I really like it. The rounded edges are definitely a plus and it has a bit more weight than your average CX-40, so it feels pretty good in your hands. While its throw is not as tight as I would like, I’m surprisingly satisfied with this purchase.

Necro'ing this to say thanks for the reviews. Seems like an upgrade in some respects from the CX40. It looks like they've changed the design a bit, though: https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-Trooper-Controller-not-machine-specific/dp/B07M5HYTZL

Hmm...looks like the buttons are different too.  Their site states that the Color May Vary, which probably means that their trying to get through any remaining "old style" stock, so if you act now, you may just get one of the "Originals".
