Overly Responsive Keyboard?!?

Recommended Posts

OK, so I'm a long time Apple IIe user who recently added a Ti-99/4A to my retro computer collection. For the most part, it works fine (as far as I can test since all I have is the computer, PSU, RF modulator, and a copy of TI Extended Basic), however, most of the keys on the keyboard tend to repeat characters no matter how light I type (oddly, the M key gives me MN or NM). Needless to say, this makes working in Basic rather frustrating, and until I get some more software, working in basic is about all I can do.

I know how to deal with a non-responsive key (that's how I fixed the T key on the thing), but overly responsive? This is the silver/black (Delorean styled) version with the mechanical keyboard. Any suggestions?

You should be able to gently lift the key caps straight up.

Underneath should be the key posts contacts. You will want to clean those as good as you can.

Also, the actual pins/connector that plugs the keyboard onto the TI mainboard, try to gently clean there as well.

Pictures of the board may be helpful for further reference.

So I cleaned the contacts, and the good news is that they're no longer repeating characters, however, the M key is still typing N almost 50% of the time?

Also, I've tried to take pictures of the board, but my camera isn't giving me a good image. Might be the lighting. Might be that I'm a lousy photographer.
