Robert M #1 Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, I recently bought a copy of Omega Race (cart only). Is there any way to play this game with a regular controller. The manual mentions a special Turbo Booster controller. Is there any way to build my own custom controller? Thanks,
Thomas Jentzsch #2 Posted June 18, 2003 Is there any way to play this game with a regular controller. The manual mentions a special Turbo Booster controller. Is there any way to build my own custom controller? IIRC you can use the Coleco (or INTV?) controller. Search the forums and you will sure find the correct answer. And if you have a Cuttle Cart you can play my joystick/driving controller hack.
NovaXpress #3 Posted June 18, 2003 That's just one more reason for me to finally order a Cuttle Cart
MegaManFan #4 Posted June 18, 2003 That's just one more reason for me to finally order a Cuttle Cart Would that but we could, my friend. Chad Schell's long since out of them! We'll have to wait until Cuttle Cart II comes along, and hopefully you have a 7800 to run it on.
NovaXpress #5 Posted June 18, 2003 Ok, so its not available now? Then why are we still being told to buy the Cyberpunks CD if I have no way of playing it? I seriously think that the ROMs for Starpath should be available in that case.

CPUWIZ #7 Posted June 18, 2003 Sorry, how is Omega Race related to CC or Starpath? Uhm, you mentioned it in relation to your hack.
Thomas Jentzsch #8 Posted June 18, 2003 Uhm, you mentioned it in relation to your hack. I thought he was refering to Omega Race. My fault. Next try: You don't need the CC to play the Starpath games and the CD was there before the CC. Just use any emulator.
CPUWIZ #9 Posted June 18, 2003 You don't need the CC to play the Starpath games and the CD was there before the CC. Just use any emulator. Or a Supercharger perhaps ?

I seriously think that the ROMs for Starpath should be available in that case. Because the current owners of those roms doesn't want them out, and you can use the cd on a supercharger. If you look around online you can find the roms for the supercharger, but I'm not givin any clues.
NovaXpress #11 Posted June 18, 2003 You don't need the CC to play the Starpath games and the CD was there before the CC. Just use any emulator. Are you saying I can play the CD in my PC? If so I must make apologies and order that disk pronto!!!!! So hoe does Omega Race work with Coleco controls? Do the 2 buttons actually correspond to the Omega Race controls? That seem like an incredible coincidence.
Thomas Jentzsch #12 Posted June 18, 2003 Or a Supercharger perhaps ? Hm... maybe!
NovaXpress #13 Posted June 18, 2003 I already have all the Supercharger ROMs and unreleased games in convenient formats. I still want to support and own a really nice package like the Cyberpunks put out.
Thomas Jentzsch #14 Posted June 18, 2003 Are you saying I can play the CD in my PC? If so I must make apologies and order that disk pronto!!!!! AFAIK yes. Glenn should know better. So hoe does Omega Race work with Coleco controls? Do the 2 buttons actually correspond to the Omega Race controls? That seem like an incredible coincidence. Not too incredible. There are only 9 wires, some are already used, so the chances weren't that bad.
jsoper #15 Posted June 18, 2003 Well, there may be some Cuttle Carts showing up on ebay as owners may sell them and buy a Cuttle Cart 2. As for the Cyberpunks CD you can play that on the original Supercharger and there are a couple on Ebay right now. As for the Turbobooster, you can use CV controllers as mentioned, or just play the colecovision version which is what I do. Deathskull Labs at http://users.erols.com/tiltonj/games/tech/...index.html#2600 discusses the turbobooster but is kind of misleading. I have one and will make and post a simple adapter someday, busy with other stuff now. What till you see the next project I roll out, it's gonna be great. Godzilla #16 Posted June 18, 2003 fcuk all those, just play the vic version. its the roxx0rz. :-)
Godzilla #17 Posted June 18, 2003 in a related note, 2600 Omega Race is something I've --NEVER-- understod. WHY was it sold with a fancy extra controller piece when one was not needed?? the control scheme it uses plays SO much better the way normal 2600 asteroids/gravitar/et all do it. The 'Booster Grip' (or the 'suck arse grip' as I call it,) makes the game HARDER to play, and less intuitive. 2600 Omega Race is EASILY the worst Omega Race out there. And now that I think about it, related to that other topic, it was DEFINATELY a huge dissapointment to me as a kid.
ZylonBane #18 Posted June 18, 2003 Well, maybe someone can hack it to change the thrust command to joystick-up. Might be non-trivial since it'll have to mask off the left-right bits. Hope the ROM image isn't 100% full!
Xot #19 Posted June 19, 2003 Anyways, in response to the original question, yes, a Colecovision controller will allow you to use both buttons as intended.

Is there any way to build my own custom controller? IIRC you can use the Coleco (or INTV?) controller. Search the forums and you will sure find the correct answer. I specifically bought a Coleco controller at Philly 4 so I could finally play Omega Race on my 2600. It seemed cheaper than getting a booster grip. I bought so many games (including Thrust+ ) that it took me a while to test the controller out. And guess what? In the mean time, my Omega Race cart died. I don't think I'll ever know if a Coleco controller works or not.

slapdash #23 Posted June 19, 2003 Are you saying I can play the CD in my PC? No, I don't believe you can play the Starpath CD directly like that. Version one had BIN versions of the games but not Version two, IIRC. If someone knows better, please correct me...
SS #24 Posted June 19, 2003 In the mean time, my Omega Race cart died. I don't think I'll ever know if a Coleco controller works or not. Man, that sucks but it's still kinda funny in a Snidely Whiplash sort of way!

I don't think I'll ever know if a Coleco controller works or not. Try it with Thrust+! All I could do was fire and then crash into the fuel tank. Nothing else on the controller did anything. So do I have a broken controller as well? I don't have a Colecovision to test it on. Maybe I'm just cursed?
