Who owns the rights to Custer's Revenge?

Recommended Posts

Who owns the rights to Custer's Revenge? I know mystique was sold to Playaround but what happened to the IP since Playaround? It would be great to see a mobile game, 7800 release and HD remake. It would also be great to see a Hollywood production based on Custer's Revenge(it would be a better love story than Twilight). But all of that can't happen if the IP holder doesn't greenlight it.

why?

A

Because it is about history and tracing the rights to one of the most infamous games. It is about finding out what happened to the game that brought many joy. And possibly to crowdfund buying the rights so it can be released to public domain for preservation purposes.

It was always offensive and gross, and it was never a good game. If you can't come up with a better idea for a game concept, then I'm truly sorry for you.

"to the game that brought many joy."

Ok, sorry you lost me.

This is one of those games that actually works only because the graphics are so primitive. Making it on modern hardware would remove all the charm, I'm sure.

And I'm saying "charm" in the "fun for 15 minutes" sense. Custer was considered to be in poor taste in the early 80s. Release it today and you'd be flogged in public square.

Unless there's hard evidence that someone bought the rights from Playaround, it's safe to assume that the game is abandonware. Also why a film adaptation? If anything I think Yars' Revenge is more deserving of a movie.

Yes, in today’s culture lets revive a game about raping women. Really? Would could change it from Custer to Weinstein’s Revenge and he could rape up and coming Hollywood actresses.

I am still in shock over this post.

Why? It's just a reverse of kaboom tbh. Here's an idea, remake kaboom with a "charge your buckets on the side of the screen" element and you basically have the same game : P

Yep, why anyone would want a newer version of what is essentially a rape game is beyond me.

Maybe in 100 years when Hollywood is a desperate crack addict of it's former self.

Fixed.

In one version of the manual it was consensual. I just was interested in what happened to the corpse of Playaround and if there are still rights laying around. Much like the iconic story of the Wolfenstein rights which were purchased by id software from some random old lady.

If it was found who owns it and legitimately purchased by the community and released to the public domain a torrent of creativity could be unleashed. Maybe even Atari Age could get in on the action selling hacks or reproductions.

Why?

Why not?

There are a lot things you can do in videogames but you won't do it in real life.

Take an example: Double Dragon. You beat down guys all the way.

Of course, you won't beat down any people you meet in the streets, that would be stupid.

It's the same for Custer's Revenge. You're raping a fictional woman, does not mean you can rape women and go for it.

That's why some players like this game and raping a fictional woman is the best part.
