0078265317 #1 Posted February 22, 2019 What do you think? This is fan made by somebody else not official. Looks nice except does not take real carts. Not sure how that pen thing works. https://www.yankodesign.com/2019/02/21/the-gameboy-lost-some-weight-and-got-curvy-displays/
CatPix #2 Posted February 22, 2019 Looks nice on pics... It is a bit too flashy in some areas, and the D-pad looks absolutely horrible and unuseable.
HoshiChiri #3 Posted February 22, 2019 Well this was clearly designed to look good in pictures and not be at all functional. Impossible-to-use inputs (those buttons stick out for a reason!), unnecessary screen curve to increase the chance of pressure damage in a pocket or bag, and weird game sticks that will not only be damn near impossible to tell apart, but are somehow a greater choking hazard than a switch cartridge. Not to mention cutting off that corner is going to make it sit oddly in your hands. You want to improve the original game boy? Give a game boy pocket a backlit LCD and a rechargeable battery. Done.
Flojomojo #4 Posted February 22, 2019 Cute renders. Too bad about the D-pad. New BittBoy is my GameBoy of choice right now. Exists. https://www.bittboy.com/collections/bittboy2/products/new-bittboy https://www.amazon.com/New-BITTBOY-Portable-Video-Handheld/dp/B07L8C91MN
CatPix #5 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) I go with the GB Boy Colour. The BitBoy looks nice too, but from what I've seens, it's TOO SMALL. I don't have big hands, but I already find the original Game Boy too small, so imagine that Bittboy for me Edited February 22, 2019 by CatPix
jhd #6 Posted February 22, 2019 I have no interest in a handheld console -- the screens are all too small for me to comfortably see. I agree that this new device looks cool, but is impractical. What is the point of the unusual cartridge form factor? If the system cannot play existing Gameboy games, it is of limited use.
Tanooki #7 Posted February 23, 2019 Ugh hell no that thing is awful. You want the best option for 8bit Gameboy truly?? GET THIS: https://bennvenn.myshopify.com/products/backlit-gbc-drop-in-lcd-kit-pre-orders (It's $70 now in the first batch, when in full production he said it would be as cheap as one of those chinese AGB-101 panels) This is a NO SOLDER, NO MOD drop in replacement screen for the GBC. This is like the AGB-101 panels but is made for and designed with the right cable connection for an existing OEM Nintendo Gameboy Color. This is what you need if you want to improve on the classic Gameboy design.
Flojomojo #8 Posted February 23, 2019 Ooh, that's neat. I wonder how the power consumption compares to the original monochrome LCD? I don't mind the small BittBoy except for the somewhat squeaky D-pad.

Or I will just get a used gba sp 101. That does it all.
newtmonkey #10 Posted February 23, 2019 This Flex thing is a monstrosity, obviously designed by and for people who would rather have some gadget sitting on a shelf to brag about, than use it for anything.
digdugnate #11 Posted February 23, 2019 it's perty, but woof, those controls. they look like they'd be a pain in the butt to play games with.
Newsdee #12 Posted February 23, 2019 I prefer that console design that looked like a modern Famicom Disk Sytem in cube format, forgot the link to it...
godslabrat #13 Posted February 23, 2019 Hey, remember when a graphic artist on the internet whipped up a console mock-up, and the real thing ended up being eerily similar? Me either.

GBCs even in mint like shape are very easy to come by and they're cheap. Also it's not really a mod, mod would technically entail doing something permanent to the electronics or chassis(shell) to change how the thing behaves. This is more of just a drop in part swap, and you easily could just keep your oriignal screen in a protective case against any issues if you wished it, just as you could restore it as such without anyone being any wise to it. A GBA 101 is quite uncomfortable to use compared to a legit GBC for those old games plus they're 99% compatible as some games glitch a bit and others like tilt sensor Kirby fail to work completely. Tanooki #18 Posted February 24, 2019 How exactly is a GBA 101 "uncomfortable"? It depends on the person but the common complaint online is the L/R buttons, pulling the tendons on the back of the hand causing soreness in games that more often rely on L/R buttons to function. it has bugged me at times too, much like the Micro, but in general it's not bad. CatPix #19 Posted February 25, 2019 (edited) The SP in general is annoyingly small. When I hold it, my hands rub on each other. it's too cramped in general. I plan to get a normal GBA and mod the screen to really enjoy GBA games. Also, beause the controls are at the very bottom, it mean that you're holding all of the console's weight with your fingers, which is unconfortable too; comapre to the SP where the weight is balanced (since you hold it in the middle). You were talking about GBC games. You wouldn't use L and R for GBC.
Tanooki #21 Posted February 26, 2019 Yes true, but I was speaking in general about the problem of the SP on the whole. You're right otherwise, you wouldn't outside of stretching the screen or not.
